as the the old reverse adage goes...."The mind is a terrible thing". Ever notice an old house or location in the day time is not scary in the least. Limit the senses and the mind will fill in the rest........

Also, paranormal tho completly bunk interests me....whats more interesting is why people believe what they believe.........I don't want to turn this into a PARF but, in my experience Liberal mind sets are more apt to believe in the paranormal than more Conservative types...again just an observation that in my experience holds true.

the brain works hard to "fill in" visual and auditory phenomena -- much of what people see or hear as 'ghosts' are just due to that

in common parlance, 'hallucinations'

I thought the conservatives were the ones most likely to believe in the holy spirit, Jesus rising from the dead and all that paranormal.....I mean biblical stuff.

I was on the Code (resuscitation) team in an old hospital, the oldest ward of which had a reputation as haunted. One morning a Code was called, we duly attended, resus'ed the patient and he was transferred to ICU. Talking to the ward nurses afterwards, they all denied calling the Code in , claiming the had only just found the patient when we (the Code team) appeared.

Thats the twist, many conservative are Christian and many libs are Christian...I would bet in that group more libs would believe in ghost. The other twist is the godless libs who believe in ghost. They are out there.

My brother and I smelled the pipe tobacco of the former caretaker of a lighthouse in north Florida (St. Augustine) which died long ago.

You can take your pipe, why not your favorite cigar too?

Never seen a full body apparition but have seen footage on Ghost Hunters that I cannot explain. Destination Truth has captured some unexplained footage also.

When I was a teen the young chickie across the road asked me if I would like to help her baby sit that evening at her sisters house. We were fooling about on the couch - I'll spare you the details but were were quite involved. Then there was a huge door slam in the middle of the house. We thought it was her very pissed off sister back home early so clothes back on etc but the was no one there. and the doors were locked. And the kids were asleep up the other end of the house. Being teens we were back into it, and again a huge wham as the internal door slammed. There were no draughts, windows closed and I had left the offending door closed. This happened a couple more times then the roll down blind next to us shot up. That was it. It was like a b grade horror but happening around us. I said to Robyn that I was out of ther and for her to bring the kids and come with me but she wanted to stay. I still feel bad about leaving but it was pretty scary. When I got home my phone was ringing and it was petrified Robyn speaking. As we talked on the phone until her sister got home the door slammed another 8 or 10 times. I didn't find out what happened after that as we never spoke again

Watched a doco about this recently and how the mind fills in something like 60-80% of what we see. It does this on past visonary cues. Very clever. Though it is very easily fooled as was pointed out in the film. In one experiment people saw things that were not even there. Their brain was tricked into filling in the blanks. And these were random folk walking down a street that were asked to look at something. All of them stunned when shown the results.

We also spend around 2 hours a during a waking day blind. Your eyes cannot see when you move them. It only appears you see as your mind is fillings in the blanks as your head moves.

If the brain really does fill in 60-80% of what we see, then it's fair to say we see only 20-40% of what is there - right?

Maybe most ghosts exist in that 60-80%.

After all, consider that children are much more sensitive to these paranormal phenomena.

Children are still learning to "see" and their brains lack the ability to "fill in" based on past memories because these memories do not yet exist.

There are no dead humans appearing as "ghosts".

Some people are troubled by demons, however.
