I guess there is nothing wrong with playing these hypothetical, "what if", games but I don't spend a lot of waking time thinking about stuff that is never going to happen. Or if it does, it did not need to be thought about previously.

I've had a dream where I'm the last guy on earth for a day and I can go and play with anything I want. My first stop is the Ferrari dealer to take a new (whatever the current model) sports car for a good beating on empty streets. I'm actually aware in the dream that if I crash and get hurt, there will be no ambulance coming or people in the hospital to save me. Flying a plane is out since I don't know how, but it still crosses my mind since there will be no traffic in the sky and no controller needed.

I think it's even a better fantasy since no $$ is needed and the image or ego factor of the toys is eliminated. It's just a pure question of *what would be most fun*.

In the real world, I think about used 997S coupes with a few miles and scratches on them for a good price as a street or occasional track car.

with you on both counts.

there was a movie years ago called 'night of the comet' that ended with that scenario. the zombies are defeated and just a few humans remain on the planet. as the heroes walk out into the light of day a kid driving a mb 560 or something like it drives up and after being complemented on the car says 'thanks, I have 14 of them!' or something like that.

by far my favorite fantasy. i'd take the opportunity to play with various motorcycles as well.

Cool story Hugh. Your friend is clearly an astute investor

First one that comes to mind is this 935. While I would take any 935, if it could be about one car it would be this one. No other would do. While I love all 935s, there is a certain unmolested cleanliness about this car. Peter Gregg history does not hurt either.

But that 935 is unobtainium. Brumos would never sell it. And since we are talking unobtainable cars, I would take this W196 out of the Mercedes museum. To me it's the ultimate Mercedes. I think this particular car, if put in the open market, would sell for more than a 250GTO.

But the ultimate for me is the 956B-117. Two time consecutive Le Mans winner. Reinhold Joest just will not sell that car. I also don't see how it could be worth any less than 3 million in any of the top currencies. But really, any of the 10 or so remaining 956s will do.
