Apple - down in flames

Seriously. This is not cool. Must be the 4th or 5th battery this has happened to (on 3 different laptops).

(Wife's picture, my nails aren't that pretty)

When our house burns down from one of these, will an Apple genius be dispatched to help us rebuild?

Yikes. I guess I'll stick with my $500 laptops, my current Sony is still going strong after two years.

WOW, do they build batts for Boing on the side?

What di they say about the batt situation, that does not look good.
Do you have An air space under the computer when using?

Another apple gripe. My I Mac just craped out at 3.5 years. It is repairable but the cost is half the cost of a new one. The Tech at the repair shop said the expected life is three to five years. I was really hoping for much more. What a waste.

Yep, it sits on one of these. You can see the "feet" in the photo.

It may well end up being about AAPL, if they burn my damned house down.

Gripe to Apple. They might apply a discount to a new one, worth a try.

I had one do that on a 17" Macbook Pro that cost me over $3,000. It was sandwiched between some luggage in the back seat of the Porsche and must have overheated. It was over a year out of warranty and Apple replaced nearly everything for free. I ended up with pretty much a brand new machine.

No problems with our MacBook Pro over the past 3-4 years.

Hasn't anyone seen an IPOD do that? Battery failure. Common.

ZLP: Couldn't tell you offhand, it came from my bro-in-law. He wanted a smaller, lighter machine (this one was for his grad design classes) and so we got this as a hand-me-down.

Our two white plastic MacBooks have been through this ordeal at least twice each.

Do you leave it in your vehicle here(did your BIL)? I have never had a failure like that in my apples which includes 2 MBP's and a white plastic MB.

Two of mine did. Battery disintegration. Both ipods were 7 years old when it happened.

Nope, and nope (he was in Boston). It's my wife's "Hulu" machine when she's doing filing in the office. Because the thing is such a boat anchor we never take it out of the house. It leads a very low-stress lifestyle.

I have a late 2007 15"MBP and never had any heat or battery issues. That's nasty.

I'm actually going to install a new HD 320GB 720 Rpm, because it's been so reliable.

Post a picture of the keyboard and screen of that thing. There is definitely an issue there, but the photo of battery compartment looks like my old Powerbook G4, so not even a Macbook. Really old. Are you sure that the battery was good or do you just leave it plugged-in 24/7 trying to charge a dead battery? The batteries definitely don't last forever on those old ones, (or the new ones for that matter).

Common problem with certain older models.

It was a batch of bad batteries, nothing to do with the rest of the laptop.

There was a recall on them.

Have had 3 do the same thing.

Apple replaced every one for free without question even after being several years out of warranty.
