The Senna Movie

I just watched then Senna movie, and as big Senna fan all I can say is wow. It was an excellent documentary into the life and death of one of Formula 1's greats. I had read much about him in some of his biography's, but it was great to see some of the clips of the one driver I look up to.

Anyone else watch it?

Sorry just saw this, but I saw it at a theater in Encino. I saw it last Thursday which was the last day it was showing. I'm not sure when it's being released. What'd you think?

I'm looking forward to seeing it myself.

Any reference on Ayrton's input into tuning the NSX?

I am sure Wayne does not need product suggestions from us BUT...

Wayne, if you can find a place to buy a bunch of DVDs of the Senna movie I will place my order right now.

I wouldn't expect a DVD anytime soon.

The film is showing twice (3-12 and 3-17) at SXSW in Austin.

After the film won the World Cinema Award for Documentaries last month at Sundance, I would guess that odds are better now for a wider US theatre/art house release. That award gives it alot better chance of a general interest audience, beyond our gearhead niche.

To quote director Director Asif Kapadia, "This is amazing. This festival has restored my faith in film festivals, Sundance is all about the films, the audience and the film makers. Every single screening is sold out. We were told that no one in the US knew who Ayrton Senna was, that there was no interest in Formula One, that we should forget about releasing the film here, so to win the Audience Award at Sundance is just fantastic, it makes us feel so proud. We hope this shows that there is an audience for SENNA in the US, both fans and people who have never heard of him before and I hope this is just the beginning of a long journey for SENNA in 2011.”

Unfortunately, I'd guess that only SXSW badgeholders will be admitted if its the the same procedure as all the rest of the seminars/concerts during SXSW.

If you can latch onto one of those, show times are 11:00AM on Sunday, 3-12 and 7:15PM on Thursday 3-17, both at the Paramount, 713 Congress.

Good luck.

Is SXSW a Texas thing? It was just in a regular theater here in Encino. No special passes required.

The Austin showing will essentially be another judged film festival showing, with paid and registered attendees, like Sundance.

SXSW (South by Southwest) started as music festival in Austin the '80's, a great venue for bands looking for industry exposure. Its ballooned way beyond that now, with a significant independent film and interactive media element added, spread out over almost 2 weeks.

I hope the Senna film shows well there also. It will be another step to getting a distribution deal and a possible theatrical release here in the US.

We all will own it on DVD eventually. I want to see it first on the biggest screen I can.

You are going to drive to an Austin Texas film festival? Now that is dedication.

I think you are out of luck in North Carolina until the DVD comes out.
