I try to not drive by if I can help it. When going to Wal Mart's that were always in other cities, and never having seen before/after, I couldn't understand the hate either. When one gets added near you, you'll understand. I seriously wonder where all these people were before though. ![]() If you really want an experience, try a Wal Mart in an "interesting" neighbor hood at midnight. Just watch out for the cows. I watched some one pull multiple shopping carts into the "express lane" and ring each cart up separately so as to use that register... If the cashier had of had back bone they'd of sent them to the regular line. Oh, and they needed cigarettes to that the cashier had to go get. Soo much for getting through check out quickly for anyone with one or two items...

Why go there at midnight? Sheesh. Was Niemann Marcus closed that day?

![]() People hate Walmart because despite employing people they have the shadiest of shady business practices with their vendors and those rollsbacks come at a hefty price for vendors trying to earn their keep and the mom and pop places being undercut. A lot of times the people that are attracted to a place like that are not always the most classy or courteous people either ie: fights over places in line and the last black friday tv.

It's business. I worked for a company that sold components to GE. You can't even imagine what that was like. Army's of 6-sigma black belts crawling all over every detail in manufacturing, service, design to wring out every last drop of blood from dry rocks. Walmart is an easy target but no worse than most industry.
Oh....and Walmart pays taxes. Not so GE. Last edited by Chocaholic; 05-30-2013 at 03:57 AM.. |

The other people that shop there keep me away more than any business practice. Even the Walmart in the upscale part of the city is no fun to go to. I just don't need added drama trying to buy mundane things.

They kill the little guys and mom/pops that built this country and made it great. I dislike them for that reason. I also dislike how Walmart has made patriotism a marketing gimmick. In the 1980s and 1990s Walmart made a point of promoting "Made in the USA" and itself as a conduit for goods that helped domestic producers. It was all a sham. They but their empire on this and then sold it all out to Chinese slave labor sweatshops. They have no loyalty to anything other than profit margin - but should they? Are they obligated to or is this just what we demand they do to get our junk for cheap? That said, I think Walmart exposes something that many people are uncomfortable with - the fact that we are a nation of insatiable, piggish, gluttonous consumers who care nothing about anything or anyone else so long as we can get whatever we want, when we want it, and for cheap. We have become indiscriminate slaves to the almighty Price Point. We are quick to embrace sweatshop practices and a horribly inefficient throwaway mentality for our quality expectations so long as we get it cheap (never mind the fact you'll end up paying 5x in the long run because the cheap Chinese-made one will keep breaking versus getting a decen one in the first place...) Walmart fills our demand for these things and does it very well. I think most people aren't comfortable with this and unfairly vilify Walmart because it provides a mirror to see our own less-than-savory traits. So yes, there are some valid reasons to not like Walmart but mostly I'd say if people want to change it, focus on changing themselves first - start caring about quality, stop being so materialistic and start speaking with your wallet when it comes to where you purchase things rather than defaulting to the dumbed-down lowest common denominator of mass consumption grade convenience.

The people that vilify Walmart and are standing up for quality and not buying cheap crap are doing so by not shopping there... I don't know too many people that vilify and complain about them and still shop there. it's the people that don't care and are perfectly comfortable with their nonsense that support it.

Just google the People of Wal Mart. You will not believe your eyes.
Get some eye bleach handy before you go there. You can also google Walmartians. Just get a big tub of eye bleach.

There are entire websites devoted to the WalMart shopper. At least once a week someone sends an email with a link to walmart shoppers. I stopped looking a long time ago.
The three examples posted are mild. Just normal folks. Nothing to see here.

I am actually fairly content knowing that the Pelican guys are not better versed in such subjects. Advice on proper valve guide installation from them is one thing. A dissertation from them about Juniors, Misses, and Womens sizes, clothing cut, and body maturity, would just be weird.
