Oh thank God. I was going to go out and eat a pound of bacon to make up for your lack of dietary fat and salt.

I got off of Facebook a few years back, went through the exercise of insisting they delete my profile (not just disable it). It took about 4 months, multiple emails, a fair degree of me pounding the table (electronically of course) before they finally sent me a note which read something like "Just in case you change your mind and want to return to the borg, we are keeping your account for a further 30 days, after which if you have not contacted us or logged on, your account will be deleted and all your data deleted".
Haven't entered the URL since, refuse to even consider it and actually consider frequent posters with a fair degree of disdain for the same sort of reasons that Z-Man is doing his rant. Seriously, people, get a life. Go interact with real humans. Do your own stuff and if it isn't all that interesting, then make it more interesting. Go play in your garage, go play with your kids, go play with your spouse, break out the whips and chains....whatever, don't really care, just be human. Quit the self aggrandizement that seem to be prevalent on social networking. Geez, I even feel guilty posting this and posting to my threads on the Technical Forum, like anyone really cares that I fabricated and welded on a new rear antiroll bar mount on the Porkchop.... I have a facebook account. I also have a couple of friends from various times of my life and a few family members. I really got it years ago for "networking" with colleagues. It's worked, when I've needed or wanted jobs over the years, folks that I'm "friends" with have referred me. In the past 10 years, I think I've posted 2 updates, one when I went skydiving and one when I rode in the 3 seat F1 car. I very, VERY rarely read anyone else's updates (once or twice a year will I get on and actually read anything). I get emails about everyone's birthdays and wish them a happy birthday. I did just happen to check it out a day or two after my uncle, at the range with my cousin, accidentally shot himself in the leg while trying to clear a round that didn't fire. I was able to tell my mom about her baby brother.
Just don't read what gets posted.

I had a Greek yoghurt and a banana for lunch. Listened to some Bruno Mars. That was a good trip to NYC. Now I'm in Sea-Tac waiting for a connection. My, that girl's shoes are neon. I wonder where a water fountain is? How come I never get driven to my gate on the golf cart thingy? Hey, I think, somewhere on the Internet, there are grumpy old men whining. Maybe I'll go show them some mushrooms. Here are some mushrooms.
![]() They look like lips, don't they? You know. Doesn't that feel better? Not so grumpy now? No? Here, see a beet salad. ![]() Gosh those look like, yeah, too. Wow. Well, here's a fish. It just looks like a fish. ![]() I'm going to find a water fountain. When I come back, I'll tell you all about it. |

I have never even logged on to Facebook. I have enough life sharing with people in the real world.

Not that I'm an expert on this subject cause i doan do facebook, but I believe that whole thing is free and optional.
Iffn I was doing one of them social media things voluntarily and if I didn't like it, I'm pretty sure I would just stop doing it. I say close the account and ask the relatives to e-mail you the pictures. BTW the reason facebook is free is because you aren't the customer, you are the product. |

Never done Facebook, twitter, etc. I'm in IT and I know how these "social Media" platforms will steal your privacy and never be taken down. I have no want for personal fame, if I want to communicate with someone I'll see or call them.
I just don't understand the need to share every dump you take with the world?.... Live life, don't write about it

Hmmm... I like Facebook. I have a life, the two - three minutes a day I spend on the site normally include enough pics of family, friends and cool cars that it brightens up my day!!! I don't get worked up by the narcissistic posters....they become nothing more than slightly irritating banner ads. My friends and I (some I see almost daily, some I haven't seen in years ) use it to share things like cool bands, and concert announcements we think the others may also be interested in. (I logged in there this morning before coming here....this site serves a very similar purpose for many of us here I think....I for one spend more time in "off topic" now than I do in Tech....)

This makes me giggle...
Funny this was posted this morning as I browsed FB this am, first time in quite a while... Wondering how all of the morons who feel the need to take pictures of themselves, their drinks, and the debotchery that ensues were enjoying their massive hangovers this morning ![]() I proceeded to get up, walk my dogs, go to Starbucks for the wife and I, and get outside to detail her car for a show tomorrow... Wait, that sounded like a "status update" DOOGHT!!

The irony of me starting this post on a social media website filled with useless threads, including some that I have participated in does not escape me.
There's a saying, "Coffee -- letting you do stupid things faster. " I believe the new phrase is, "The Internet - letting you do stupid things at the speed of light!" Carry on, - Z

^^This. I was going to politely remind you of the irony, but you outed yourself.
![]() I actually like FB. I mostly lurk in there. Post once in a while. Mostly all useless stuff in the grand scheme of things, but honestly...isn't this what it was meant for? |

I sense that there is a vast difference between the FB feeds of people in large cities with lots of friends and acquaintances all over the globe and people living in the heartland who go to the same job everyday and find most of the people in their life boring.
FB is a brilliant site that is largely a waste of time, (like most of the web), but in the last week, I found out that a friend died hours after it happened, (it might have been a week otherwise), got invited to my cousin's art show in MN. that I otherwise would not have known about, a graduation party or three, plus some great photos submitted by people I care about but otherwise would never see their travels, etc. No one I know posts what they had for lunch. YMMV, as they say. |
