Easy cure for snoring?

First, I am seeing my Doctor Thursday for an unrelated issue but will ask him about snoring.

Second, I have tried the nose strip bandaid things but apparently they are not working 100%.

I am not gasping for air or anything so I don't need any air pump or whatever those gadgets are called.

Wife has declared I keep her up even when she goes to the guest bedroom... so to keep domestic peace (and continue sleeping with my wife I need to find a way to silence the snoring.

Giver her some ear plugs. My wife's been wearing them for years simply to drown out city noises but also my occasional snoring.

Go see your dentist. He can make an impression of your teeth and have a custom mouth guard made. This works for me. It was a bit painful at first but now that I'm used to it, I don't mind wearing it at all. And the wife is much happier.

.

/\ +1 On the mouth guard.
Try this, lay down as you would for sleeping, force yourself to replicate the snoring mechanical movement/sound as you normally would, then move your lower jaw forward under your upper one and try to repeat the snoring movement. You'll see that it is almost impossible to snore when you place your lower jaw in that position. That is what the mouth guards do, they push forward your lower jaw.
It saved my marriage.

but... you should still mention this to your doctor - ask if you have sleep apnea or may develop it with age

do you ever wake up at night?

Go to an ENT and do a sleep study. The study can determine the degree of your apnea, If you suddenly wake up from snoring you are literately not breathing,

I have apnea and have used a machine and mask for over 10 years. I went thru (2) sinus surgeries before the machine and mask. It took some getting use to but, I sleep thru the night and it made a big change in my well being.

Good luck........

My GF snores pretty darn loud; she can even wake herself up. Finally, after 6 years together, last month she got a custom mouth guard from her dentist. Blessed quiet!!!!

But she insists on trying to talk with it in. Murgkle? Thfft!

Merely a second pillow works for me (not over my face). Took me a few years to find that out. Good luck.

Scott, you posted a thread on this topic two months ago. Your wife is running out of patience with you, and she is suffering sleep deprivation. Your next thread on this topic will be about your wife moving out of the house.

You need to make an appointment for a sleep study.

I snored but not all the time? I also had unexplained tiredness and other issues so my doctor had a sleep study done and they found that my breathing stopped 80 or more times an hour or more than once a minute. The snoring was when I started breathing again! So for the past two years I have used a CPAP machine and no more snoring, better energy and about a year ago, my wife got one also and her snoring also stopped.

You mentioned you are not gasping for air and as far as I knew I was not doing any gasping either! I would suggest you ask your doc about that?

Thanks for your concern,

I searched my thread history and I may have commented but I don't believe I started the thread.

I don't wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air or anything like that.

Most often I sleep right through the night (maybe get up once for a pee).

More an issue with the wife complaining about the noise, no disrespect to women but if your snoring woke them last night after a month of no snoring suddenly "you have a snoring problem!"

It is the thread you started on 4/4 .... two months ago.

I figure at this point you really don't want any help.

Snoring is the most common symptom of sleep apnea. Mild to moderate sleep apnea can be virtually undetectable to self or one's partner. The issue is that frequent apnea events which can only be detected and measured via sleep study will not allow you to ever get into REM restful sleep and this can be extremely dangerous if untreated.

Get the sleep study done. I've been on CPAP for 10 years now. Best thing I've ever done!

On the distaff side, I am afraid that administration of 40 grains of lead, introduced to the offending brain as a single shot is your only permanent fix....plus realizing that there are multiple options for replacement if they become indisoposed or suffer rigorous mortis.
