CAN Bus test?

I have an issue I hope some experts on here can help with

I have a 2001 Boxster S which I use as my racing car. At the start of the year I purchased a RaceLogic data logger and now have an issue...

The RaceLogic Video-VBox Lite will collect additional data but only via CAN bus only. To do this you need to purchase a special cable. If the car does not have a CAN bus then you can purchase a special box that they make to convert signals to CAN Bus signals.

Now, both these options have a not so small price and I would like to work out which one I need to get!

If my car was a 2000 or under I would get the CAN bus converter box as those cars do not have a CAN bus.

If my car was a 2002 I would get the CAN Bus cable as all cars from 2002 and on have the CAN Bus.

But the 2001 is in the middle and I am having a hard time understanding if there is any CAN Bus function in my car. I know the cables are there, but not sure if there is any signal in the cables

Anyone know if I can in a simple way test for CAN Bus signals on the wires - will I be able to see with a Voltage meter or something if there is anything there?
