How long is it before you start....

looking and dreaming about another car(new/used) after you have got your present one.
2. What would your next car likely be?

In my case I start looking about 2 years after the last car purchase.
My next car would likely be a 2009 Cayman(S?) - the one without the IMS bearing.

It's constant, 24/7/365.

If I ever won a big Powerball I'd be in trouble.

I tend to keep most cars quite a long time. The porsches are split between long term ownership and short.
356 1 year
'77 15 years
'71 3 years
'88 3 years
914 race car 2 years
914 streeter 12 years

I've had a Porsche in the garage pretty much since 1972. I've had a Chevy truck of one sort or another since 1965.

Seems that I also have the same problem. I'm still looking for that keeper.

+1

I'm having a hard time justifying hot rodding my '84, when a post IMS Cayman S has really caught my attention.

To answer the question. I don't know yet. I have had my daily driver El Camino for 22 years and my 911 for 18 years. Since 1974 I have owned only 3 cars. I still have two of them.

One disclaimer. I don't count my wife's cars. Even though my name is on the title they are hers.

Same here,

My problem is every car I buy is a compromise, I don't have the funds to ignore the price tag or fuel economy.

Ya.... Going to dinner with Matt is dangerous! We are both ADD and always looking for the next car! It's like hanging out with a junkie!

Ya I'm always shopping for the next car, but right now I'm thinking a boxster will be the next. Unless I win the lotto, then all bets are off...

I don't know how many cars I've had. I didn't keep them too long when I was young, because they were mostly jalopies on their last legs. When they got to the point I had to work on them more than drive them, I started looking around for another. That was when I was really poor & going to school. After I got older, I just keep cars, trucks, bikes, & motorcycles for very long times - like ten+ years. They're just ways to get around, except for my Porsche which is an entertaining project.

That's my problem! If I had the money and garage space I would have:

4x4 crew cab truck because you always can use a truck -Tacoma
Full sized SUV for kid duty, make this the wife's car
Luxury sport sedan like my S8 for high speed road trips
Sports car coupe - 911
Sports car convertible - Boxster

So all I need is a 5 car garage and about $100k and I'll be set.

I'm starting to get the itch for a Boxster or Cayman but would have to sell the 914 and 911 which I'm not sure I'm ready yet.

gotta finish the two i got. MR2 needs to be finished for SCCA solo STR prep, and then the 951 needs new springs and LSD.

i'd like to think my next would be a 911, but i kinda think in 2 or 3 years, i might have other demands then going 3 wide with sports cars. i could see selling the mr2 for an LS swapped miata or super charging the MR2 though

In the last 9 years, maybe 10 days without a 911 in the garage. In the last 13 years, zero days without a Mercedes.

It seems like the replacement is already in play when I sell one vehicle.
