Mexican dentists.....

Has anybody had experience with Mexican dentists? Good or bad? Will be in Arizona for a couple of weeks this winter so a quick visit to Mexico is within the realm of possibilities. Got a root canal coming up in a couple of weeks(if that tooth can be saved). Then a crown is apparently needed. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

He is in Canada not Cuba, not dental care is covered here unless it poses a health risk.

My wife's parents would get their teeth done in Tijuana. Mucho cheaper (maybe 1/4 the cost) and the work was on par with north of the border work. Neighborhood was a bit sketchier though.

I know a lot of people who've had dental work done in Mexico. WAY cheaper than in the U.S. Some docs who have practices here (in the States) also have an office south of the border; I'd look into those ones.

I never knew the braceros hanging out at Home Depot had such a broad skill set.

You are a braver man than me!

I had my first root canal last year and it scared the heck out of me.

However my dentist sent me to young specialist with all the high tech gear, he did a great job and relatively painless.

I may complain about only making $45K a year but thank (insert your favorite Deity) I have full medical/dental/vision.

When it comes to buying stuff for my car or the house I will be cheap and shop all over the universe to get the best deal and save a few bucks.

However when it come to our healthcare... I go with the best I can find.

YMMV

The Mexicans have a built-in natural talent in dental work because of all the years of their ancestry's work in the mining industry.

I have a friend in New Mexico who goes to Mexico for all his dental work and is very pleased and impressed with the quality and cost savings.

I would go but too far away from Florida for the minor dental work I typically need.

Try to talk to a couple (or more) of people who can recommend a dentist. I took a friend to TJ back in the early '90s to get a tooth capped. The cost north of the boarder was somewhere in the range of $500. The dentist there charged $90. One of the differences was he was in his little facility by himself. He didn't have a ton of receptionists, helpers, billing people, hygienists, etc. He would work for a while & announce he was going to take a short break, & go in the back to drink a cup of coffee & read a magazine. After about 20 minutes, he'd be back on the job. The work was top rate. A few years later I noticed he had an office on this side of the boarder.

Find a College dental school. They need patience and dont need to make a profit.

Compare price and quality- you will be surprised.

I did that last year with the UW. Needed some deep cleaning, and quite a bit of it.
They did OK. A bit painful because it was exam time and they REALLY wanted to pass exams... but they got the job done, and it cost almost nothing.
However, it took quite a while to complete the process, so I was the one with the "patience"

There is no part of Mexico I wish to visit for any reason, especially for medical work.

All of the dopers and drug addicts in this country have turned Mexico into a drug cartel run cesspool.

We had the braces done on two of our daughters as well as several fillings done in Tijuana but that was in the 80's. I would check once you get to AZ to see who is advertised and such and how easy it is to get there. We don't go much any more due to the border hassles of coming back. If you go make sure to take your passport and get Mexican car insurance and make sure you have NOTHING illegal such as drugs, guns, ammo, etc, etc. If you have to take perscription drugs with you, like insulin, make sure the meds match your info.

It's not free for teeth. Dentists charge an arm and a leg over here so I think that's why he wants to go the cheaper route.

PS Our 'free' health care is worth exactly what we pay for it. It's pretty crappy. Be happy you have VERY good doctors in the USA!
