Which car would you drive?

I am taking a road trip of about 1200 miles this weekend. I can drive my Carrera with stock a/c (in other words, no a/c) or my MBenz. Very comfortable, but not much fun. Which would you drive, given the current weather in the south?

I can't decide.

Depends on who you are travelling with. For instance if it was my wife I would take the Benz as she cannot handle the discomfort of a small car. If I was by myself I would take the Porsche.

For instance this winter I will be driving to Cal./Arizona and my wife would insist on the Camry as it has air cond. and it is a good travelling car. The Boxster has air but limited space. My rear end is challenged for long trips at the best of times.Hope this helps....

Yeah, thanks, guys. I will be solo, so I don't have to worry about the comfort of others.

I have done trips in the Texas summer in the non A/C porsche. A cooler in the passenger seat so that I can put a towel into an ice bath that I then put around my neck. A ziploc bag of ice fits nice under the 5 point harness and positioned over the heart will cool your blood. Pretty pleasant until the stoplights.

If the stock AC is still in place just service it. It may not keep you cold but it is WAY better than no AC. I drove mine on many road trips with stock AC. 80 degree cabin temp is way better than 105.

The stock AC works great if it is raining or cloudy.

The chances of making it will be better in the 911.... With that said take the Benz- that's what it was made for. It's a road car, more comfortable, with AC.

PS get the UV shield for the windshield. I just got it done for $125 and did 10 Hrs in mine. made a huge difference.

Take the Benz. Chances are, 80% of it will be straight roads and how fast can you really go in that 911 without getting pop by the cops.

I can live 1200 miles with weak air, you have windows, never pass up the chance to drive the Porsche.

Well, you can drive it over Ortega Hwy and beyond all day long and still be home for early dinner. When you are out on a 1200 mile journey, you gotta eat hotel food and look for the them. That's a PITA.

Benz - comfy, more amenities, cool A/C, etc. If you were heading somewhere nice and cool and taking twisty backroads, then 911 all the way. Interstate cruising really isn't that entertaining no matter what you are driving.

From where to where and do you have time en route? How much time at your destination?

Critical data...if you are pressed for time and the route has no intrigue, Benz.

Florida to Tennessee. Probably I-75 up there but lots of opportunity to drive the mtns once I get there. I may have been too vague in saying 1200 miles. That's round trip. I will make the trip in 9-10 hrs. each way.

This has been the nicest summer humidity-wise in Maryland I have experienced. All 80's all the time...your part of the world as well: Tennessee will be in the low 80's the next ten days.

http://www.azfamily.com/news/pasmore/New-clear-window-tint-designed-for-windshields-151592555.html

This stuff. - The stuff they used on my windshield was "CXP-70" http://www.suntekfilms.com/automotive/automotive-cxp.aspx

It's so light you can't tell it's tinted, but it is.

Had it done to the BMW cuz I got tired of being heated up- the stuff I got is the top of the line "nanotechnology" stuff- it actually feels cooler than the normal tint on the rest of the car- it's considered a ceramic tint.

I'm in Vegas, and I notice the difference driving around.

Gonna get the old tint stripped and do the ceramic tint instead. It does work. Doesn't interfere with vision, but I don't wear corrective lenses, supposedly some polarized shows a few colors but nothing drastic.

I drove my 911 year 'round in Houston for commuting including a drive to and from Florida that was almost 1200 miles round trip

It was an '88 and had decent, stock AC
