				Piech's Hot Rod: Porsche 914/8

MotoIQ is one of my favorite sites. Today I see they have a small story about the 914/8. Just thought I'd share for those who enjoy such things... And please forgive if this is a re-post. Piech's Hot Rod: Porsche 914/8 > MotoIQ - Automotive Tech, Project Cars, Performance & Motorsports

Whooo, serious power to weight ratio and low center of gravity. What a car.

The ultimate classic sleeper... You'd scare a few modern Ferraris with that thing

Helmut Bott came to Oklahoma City back in the 80s to talk to the WBR Tech Session. He talked about that car. He said he drove it often. That one had a race tuned engine in it. The one they built for Ferry had a de-tuned engine to make it a lot smoother and easier to drive. Helmut also drove the 959 prototypes back and forth to work as his commuter car. He said the locals never even looked up to pay attention to those cars. When he drove his restored Model-T he got lots of attention and people waving at him.

But is it any good on a real track? I love one-offs like that. How much more than an actual racecar would that 914 have weighed? It couldn't have been THAT much?

Well, a 909 Bergspyder weighed around 950 pounds. A 908/3 was about 1200 I think. If a 914 is 2000 pounds then it weighs almost twice as much as a real race car, or more than 2x if you count hillclimbers as real racers.
