2015 Mustang losing 400lbs?!

If true, very, very cool.

Ford seems to get it. The next F150 is also supposed to be significantly lighter than its predecessor. In the meantime, GM models seem to be inexplicably heavy. In aerospace, that's the sign of seriously lazy engineering.

Not a stretch to say that Boeing ideology is trickling down at Ford. Alan Mulally has been there quite a while now.

Sigh. I'd like a Mustang someday. A 289 HiPo with 10:1, solid lifters, a row of Webers, tube headers and a 4.33:1 9"!

add in a tremec 5 spd and it really gets it going.

Mine had 4:11's with a torsen diff 364 rear wheel hp but a single 4 barrel. @ 5,200 rpm it was doing 152.

The engine would pull max power at 6,400 and pull to 7k

Mine ('65) would do 125 mph, at top revs . . . PO had built it for acceleration . . . It only had 4 spd though.

We know the automakers can do better, they just have to be lead to it.

American's are not getting any smaller, I trust they can find the interior room with this new smaller car.

Looks to be in the bag.

Its gonna be a long wait - but it would be nice to have a real pony car again from the Mustang line.

We are not the demographic they want I guess.

Looking at the car from the front, the current generation stang reminds me of a Tupperware that has too many mashed potatoes in it but they are forcing the lid on anyway.

It would be nice to see wheel sizes come back down to reality too. That would help with the unsprung weight and fuel economy.

I still do a double take when I see one in person, much bigger than expected.

I prefered this front end

to this one (the headlights up front, blech)

I also preferred this rear

to this one

But I'm not sure which of these is better. At least the top one has the rear fender curves instead of the flat topped fenders.

or this

But, aesthetics aside, you can't argue with the performance of the new mustang, whether it be eating M3s at the track (going around corners) or a V-6 with 300hp and 30mpg.

I suppose at least this is long gone.

Next Gen Mustangs

All of the next generation Mustangs are supposed to have fully independent rear suspension. There will be a turbo 4 with over 300hp, a NA V6 with around 300hp but less torque than the turbo 4, a 5 L V8 and an NA 5.4 V8 with a flat crank! The 5.4 is supposed to make over 600hp!

I don't know why they never adopted the ControlBlade IRS from the Falcon. It's in their parts bin and is a proven IRS.
Insiders mentioned it's because Dearborn doesn't like anything that wasn't their own idea.
