When Speedvision was first on it was amazing. BTTC, Trans Am, Australian Touring Cars, World Challenge, the Runoffs, and tons of other racing from around the globe. I used to record everything that was racing related. They slowly took over Supercross and F1 from ESPN, and then ALMS from NBC. It was like racing nirvana.

Then the reality shows started to creep in. Pinks was asinine. That towing show from Chicago was kind of dumb also. Unique Whips was... words can't describe how mind numbing that show was. That was the slippery slope. The demise of televised racing can be traced back to the moment Speedvision became Speed.

What was the name of the host of most of the racing shows on TNN? I think his name was Steve Evans. Great network and excellent coverage.

Yes, Steve Evans and Brock Yates did most of the IMSA stuff. A lot of it is on youtube.

Long ago, I would hit the Speed Channel and whatever was on, was good by me........Then, almost everything was some form of NASCAR. Not even a NASCAR race, just a bunch of so called "experts" round tabling in high voices.
Q: Why is Perry Jr. an "expert".

Well, I guess I knew he was fired or I wouldn't have staked my sentence with the emoticons.

So, you don't like Miller. I do because he is acerbic and tells it like it is. No one wanted to rain on Danica the non driver's parade but he wasn't afraid to say she can't drive a car next to Castroneves and Kanaan w/o backing off. It took Hinchcliff to show that it wasn't the car.

But Miller didn't stop at chastising the girls, the others being more or less a moving chicane. He took on the slower men that showed no talent, only a lot of cash to sit in the car. He poked his nose into other's business. Good reporters are often obnoxious.

Miller wrote for The Indianapolis Star, and if I recall correctly, the Star (a) was not happy with RM's constant criticism of Tony George, because (b) the Star's editorial board was firmly on the side of the IRL during the great divide. The firing was inevitable

He can be a jerk, he's also acerbic, bitter and unwilling to suffer fools or accept BS press releases at face value. He also does his job very well, he truly loves open wheel racing and he's not intimidated by Roger Penske or the Hulman family. Motor sports in general would be better off with more like him. IMHO.

I saw or rather skimmed over commercials for the new Fox sports channel but didn't realize it was REPLACING Speed until this past weekend, when all they had scheduled was wrestling.

It was on the downhill for ever, but I still watched it sometimes.

Absolutely! I've rarely watched it since. Actually, way back, I had purchased some sort of extra package to get Speedvision and canceled it when it changed. I think I've had Speed the past few years, but other than using the DVR to record a couple of things, I haven't watched the channel at all.

Well yesterday was the Daytona 500, and the Phoenix race, and today the Bristol race. Up here it's all repeat programming until the weekend when live Nascar, practice, qualifying etc. I'm hoping there will still be live road racing.
One other thing it's still Speed channel in Canada.

+1.

Miller was absolutely correct about TG from the outset.

Even the round tracks like migets on asphalt (or dirt, for that matter) were cool. Grass roots stuff is now ignored in favor of "reality" BS.

I think they even broadcasted the POC Tribute to Le Mans from Willow Springs. A club race on TV!

Would they lose their broadcast licence in Canada if they became a competitor to Sports Net and SC?

I would guess that's why we still have Speed.
