Have a 2007 Passat Wagon 3.6 / 4 Motion as a DD. VW spent $5K in warranty work prior to it going out of warranty, 20 K miles ago.

I'm paralyzed with fear, one weird noise and it's gone.

I do like it, Best snow wagon i have ever had with Bliz tires.

I have no idea what will replace it.

The Mazdaspeed3 is nuts. I have had one. Torque steer from hell and loud. Great if you are 24. Not sure if it is a good car for everyday motoring to the office. Mine was an 08. Also, it had MORE problems than my TDI (zero problems) all under 25k miles:

- Throttle body gasket leaking (check engine light)
- Gas cap leaking (check engine light)
- Squeaks in dash
- Headlamps started peeling

It was also a horrid gas hog. 23 mpg highway was the best fill I ever got. Otherwise, in town, ALWAYS under 20 mpg. If you get on it, more like 15.

Just saying. I think the 2014 is pretty much still the same drivetrain.

But probably won't like it but would prefer softer ride like a Lexus. Not really interested in another Toyota product as we have a Camry already.

It could be tough selling the 2001 Boxster base this time of year. Interesting to see what they give me for the trade in.....
The 3 is a great car. One sister in law has a first gen, another sister in law has a second gen. Both have been great cars, especially considering the care (or lack thereof) given by teenagers. Also a 6 owned by another sister in law, same positive experience. Yes, I have a lot of sister in laws...........yay.

I need your opinion on the VW Jetta GLI or any kind of 2013 Jetta(even up to 3 years old) How reliable has your Jetta been in say the last two years? Any issues? How good are they at honoring their warranty? I would likely buy new only. No TDI thanks.

Apparently the GLI has twin turbo - any issues?

Went to a dealer to check out Mazda 3's. But looking at 2nd hand in the used lot I see rusty ones that are 2006. So I question whether long term quality is there in the Mazda 3.

Have not totally ruled out Toyota Corolla yet but we already have a Camry. Ford Focus is another possibility. Subaru maybe.
Priorities are:
Fun to drive
Reliable
Must honor warranty
Would appreciate your input!
1) GLI has a single turbo. 200hp. Premium fuel required. Frequent oil change interval.
2) GLI is NOT the same as a base or 2.5l car. They are a GTI with a trunk, in that they have independent rear suspension, rear disks, 6spd manual or DSG.

Focus are made in Mexico too. Audis will also be built in Mexico.

I have a 2005.5 Jetta 2.5l (Also Mexican built). 135K miles. Warranty covered items: Coil packs at 80K miles. That's it. Replaced rear brakes around 60K miles. Still have original front brakes. 2 sets of tires. Purge valve replaced at 110K miles. The 2.5 (while not powerful) with synthetic calls for 10K mile oil change intervals.

VW still has a 10 or 12 year corrosion warranty (like most german makes). Jap cars tend to only have a 3-5 year corrosion coverage plan.

Original clutch too. Guess my commute is more highway than stop/go.
