Drove a Lexus IS today ... UGLY!

I've been considering a new daily for a while so I drove one of these today.

Nice drive, very smooth and quiet. I really couldn't fault it technically but it's HIDEOUS... Worse than a Panamera!

What's up with a raft of ugly new cars?

That is some kind of UGLY.

The recent years of Japanese cars have had some real ugly cars.

Hyundai seems to have some decent looking cars.

Can't see how ugly it is from the driver's seat.

That front end treatment reminds me of the Miata a few years ago. That would put me off buying it. If I am putting out that kind of $$$$ I would expect a better design...I still like the VW Jetta even though it is thousands less.

I can't make myself like the new Predator Lexus. I'm sure they are great cars, though a little boring.

If I was looking at something like this at that price level then I would consider a BMW or Audi with a warranty of course. No doubt the Lexus would be more reliable but the ugly look would be consistent too!

All graceful and timeless shapes have already been done (in the 1960s, mostly).

Car makers thus have to do something "new" and "different."

That often means ugly.

You are so right, RWebb over the years auto manufacturers have gotten the styling just right. Making for some timeless beauties and in some cases failing in performance.

Been looking for a new DD for the wife. After driving a used 2010 CTS 3.6, 2011 Lexus IS 250/350, and MB E350 series we settled on a 2011 Infiniti G37 sedan. What a great car - likes to rev! Not as pricey as the others but really ticks off all our boxes. Drive one before making your final decision.

Not ours (black) but you get the picture.

Lexus reminds me of Acura a few years ago. Lots of criticism for making bland and unremarkable looking cars, so they go to the opposite end of the spectrum and make the TL look like the bat mobile. Almost like they said "we'll show you" and just went bat$h!t crazy with the styling. Lexus has also gone nuts, but apparently after watching every Predator movie multiple times.

You're right that is ugly. I daily an SC430 so I'm all for the comforts of a Lexus, but that IS300 is goofy looking.
