I broke up once with a GF because she wanted me to learn to "sign" and I refused. I tried to do it nicely but she didn't take it so well. (She was also a vegan)
She's an audiologist so it was important to her work and she wantred to be able to practice with me.
Looking back I could have handled it better but she was virtually forcing it on me and I couldn't handle that.

So... She had control issues. Oh and by the way I find a lot of vegans have control issues. More so than regular meat eaters IMO. What's with that?

Also... My ex farted a lot. Is that normal for vegans?

Life is too short to be with somebody who is controlling. I see too many relationships where one person is dissing/controlling the other. Better to find out now than after marriage/kids.

Plenty of fish in the sea. Throw the baited hook out again(use a piece of beef as bait not a carrot haha)

Gogar, stated perfectly.

Just not a fit. From my experience, if you conceded this for her, even if you had no problems being vegan, there will come another issue that you must change. Based on your comments, it sounds like you sense this in her. Trust your senses.

OH, good luck Embraer, just like Recycled Sixtie put it, "other fish in the sea".
Don't fret, get in your car and ride!!! I find that Decker Canyon at about 6 am or Grimes Canyon in the afternoon serves as a bit of salve for a broken heart? And it does help to have a friend like Daisy,

She wishes you the best as well!

no pussy is worth giving up control of your own mind......

And when you get out of your funk, you will come to the conclusion that all she was to you was...... pussy.

Just don't burn that bridge. Better to stay on good terms. She might change her mind someday--I've seen that happen.

Wow, yeah, that sucks, but I wouldn't commit to going vegan. That would be a deal breaker for me. My college girlfriend wanted me to convert to Catholicism. Wasn't going to happen.

I love animals, but I think we're supposed to eat them too. I think it's just a part of nature.

I had a friend like Daisy, a black lab Sally who passed away a couple of years ago.
She would eat anything and everything!

Know a couple who are exact opposites. He's a raging meat eating conservative, she's a raging sprout eating liberal.

They did not like each other because they did not agree with the others values.

They had a group of mutual friends so had no choice but to be exposed to each other.

They have been happily married for 10 years or so now with 2 kids.

They found they liked WHO the other was regardless of WHAT the the other was.

Your GF had it backwards.

not sure how I would handle that?

I think you made the right call. I assume that she's very pro-choice except for this... That is YOUR choice I thought?

Veganism makes you a better person? I disagree. It makes you a different person. A human is not an herbivore. A human is an omnivore.

I get the veganism thing, but it's a choice. If she cannot let you have a choice on that, what's next? What if your kids wanted to eat meat?

that was one of my main worries....having kids. she had said that our kids WOULD be vegan.

putting restraints on people will lead to them rebelling or worse

.
I pause at agreeing w/this, but...initially we reject any thought of this being so. Then, later it feels right-on.
.
I was with a vegan lady for 2 years and she would eat her tree bark and grass clippings from across the table as the juices from my BBQ'd Porterhouse ran down from the corner of my mouth. She asked how my steak was, and I reported states of Bliss and Transport. She relished not in vicariously eating my steak, but in my experience. It didn't matter to her what I ate, really, but that I had a pleasurable experience doing so.
Our choices in food did not lead to our separation. In fact, she eventually ate and craved my BBQ'd/smoked Trout fillets.
.
Quite the difference between her view and your g/f's view, eh?
Most often pain gives rise to growth - hang in there, brother.
.
Photo taken when she was 42 yrs. old.
