Tell her you are breaking up with her due to her narrow-mindedness.....not due to what she chooses to eat.

I know it's easy to justify it by saying "We're protecting Bambi from death" but this is no different than:

1. You WILL convert to my religous sect.... ...and our kids WILL believe in [Judaism, Catholicism, Scientology]

2. I disagree with Obama. Our kids WILL be Republican, and so will YOU Embraer!

3. You will wear a smoking jacket and slacks in the house. I believe dinner should be a FORMAL event every night.

Taking it a little extreme, perhaps... ...but this really boils down to her respect of your choice. You know that of course, it's just hard when you don't entirely disagree with her choice.

Sorry, but that's nothing that a nice juicy prime rib won't cure.

Like the others said, better now than later. My wife is a devout Catholic and I grew up as a very casual Methodist. When we met I told her that I would support her religion but that she had to accept that I may never choose to become a Catholic, and we married with that agreement. I did eventually decide to convert but it was MY decision, that was the key. Had she attempted to force me into it, we wouldn't have gotten married.

That's double-plus ungood. I have never met a healthy long-term vegan that didn't "cheat".

Best friends don't require lifestyle changes or lack understanding.

Here's going out on a limb...I'd venture to say she doesn't get love.

You're better off alone/seeking someone who likes you for you...not trying to control you and what you consume.

Agree w/above - veganism is cool, controlling isn't. I have a dear friend who is a raw vegan - pretty extreme commitment. I send her pics of my smoked briskets, ribs, roasts, etc. She sends me pics of her raw vegan brownies and other creations. Neither of us has much interest in eating the other one's handywork, but we respect and enjoy the effort each has made.

Sorry it didn't work out - let me know if I can help. I'd be happy to start another smoking thread - we haven't discussed brisket here yet, I don't think.

Vegan-ism is somehow tied in with the Left. It's an identity they like to subscribe to as much as anything, which is why they tell so many people that they are vegan. I'm reminded of the saying "Conservative doesnt want XX, he doesn't buy it. Liberal doesnt want XX, you can't buy it either." And that's not PARF, that's stated in as many words right in this thread. It's about Control.

Sounds like you know you did the right thing. Draw from that until you don't need to anymore.

You speak w/straight tongue, Kemosabe.
.
Don't PARF me, bro...but,
Vegans want to see themselves, and others to see them, as evolved...so they subscribe to whatever world view facilitates that...whether rational or not.
My opinion, of course.
.
And I see Lefties more in this camp than anyone else, frankly.

One major pay-off from all the ego/psychic pain I suffered along the way was to be finally able to identify abuse victims.
BTW, we're all abuse victims at some level.
If they're not willing to talk about it, color me gone.
It helps to identify who to associate with and who to not.

Very interesting. My sister in law and I couldn't be more different and do the same thing with food as she is a vegan.

Regarding the controlling thing...I'm slowly losing my best friend of almost 20years (im only 27) who despite being in the US Army and now a police officer is the biggest VAG when it comes to his, unfortunately now, wife, walking all over him. kills me

Sorry to hear, Embraer. It always sucks to break up.

But I have to agree with all the advice and in fact, you already knew and that's why you broke up with her. Although I disagree with giving ultimatums, I do think each person in a relationship pick their top three "make it or break it"'s and don't even proceed in a relationship if that other person doesn't jive with it. There are plenty of things you can give a little leeway but there are just some things that are going to catch up with you... Like obviously one of her top threes was being vegan.

I have always said the secret of a relationship isn't being in love. It's being able to put up with another person's "crap" for the long haul. And I put crap in quotes because one person's crap is another person's treasure. No worries. I am positive there is a meat eating gal out there for you. Hugs.

thanks for the support guys and tweeze. now the interesting part. ...whether to stay in LA and pay a lot of money for rent, or move back into my old shared house in palmdale. plus...now I have another house worth of furniture and crap. I might just donate it all to habitat for humanity....it's basically all brand new stuff.
