Veteran photo tread past or present
I know that veterans day is here and we should honor living veterans. And I do. I could not resist and had to show some past vets. Here is a photo of my dad and some crew. They look much happier in that photo since it was over for them in the Pacific. Does anybody recognize any one else in the photo?

This is a picture of my next-door neighbor and friend, Roy.
He was a Marine in Korea, and also trained as a navy diver and was very active with the wounded warrior west brigade. I learned quite a bit about his service to this country at his memorial service several months ago. I learned about it at his service because he would never talk about it in person, he was proud but humble. One hell of a man and one hell of a Marine. I'm proud just to have known Roy. RIP, semper Fi. ![]() |

I got this email today, don't know where else to put it, but it made me smile. I get a few of these a year and it reaffirms in me the power of simple graces:
Dear LT (sorry, you'll always be "ell-tee" to me): On a day like Veterans Day, I reflect on my time in service to our country. Memories flood my mind - some great, some not so great - and there are certain people that stand out due to their direct influence on me; You are one of those people. From your example, I saw what a true officer and a gentleman should be. You treated all your Sailors with kindness, respect, humor and dignity. It never felt like we were working "for" you, but "with" you, which meant the world to us. As hard as we worked to keep you guys safe and comfortable and alive, it was so nice to be appreciated and treated as professionals. When, as a young man, you swore to uphold and defend our Constitution, to defend our land against all enemies, and allegiance to our Flag and Republic, who knew it would be a lifelong calling of service? Who knew how many young lives you would affect by your shining example of a true man and patriot? I am proud to have served with you, Captain Morgan. I'm forever grateful for your sacrifice and service. Happy Veterans Day. ~~Kel (Petty Officer Kuhn) Two re-enlistments from the time I served with PO Kuhn: ![]() ![]()
