I miss Huell. That guy could make the most mundane object seem fascinating.

I have two different relatives in the area who are builders but that means they do it for a living so I’d be paying. I’d likely do the cabinets and fixtures myself. Maybe even do the wiring and plumbing myself if it didn’t hurt their schedule.

There are some really nice pre fab places out there.

This is a good book by his cameraman Luis Fuerte. It gives a lot of insight into how the shows progressed and were shot (Visiting, California's Gold) and he and Huell's working relationship and travels....

I came across this video today. Cool Porsche content at the beginning and end. And a really cool house.

I helped my father build this in Malibu. All the doors were repurposed from homes in Greece

The Pope-Leighey House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1940. Located in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1965 the 1200 sq ft /111 m2 home was to be demolished to make way for local highway expansion but it was saved, restored, listed with the US National Trust, and opened to tours. And according to the Realtor's clipboard it isn't worth much, only 1,200 SF, no garage, no master bath, no walk-in closet, tiny kitchen, no basement.......................so on and so forth.

And who puts a flat roof on a house?

A true masterpiece of architecture.

Come on, David. You're handy. Get your tool belt and hammer and you'll have it done in a couple of weekends!

As it looks this afternoon:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1383621839.jpg

This is a short sale we've been chasing since March, and our final offer was accepted by the bank on Friday. We should be signing the contract tomorrow. We have a tax and accounting practice which is based in our home office (we live across the street) and due to growth, we need more room. The side facing the camera is where the PO and store were, and is where we'll be moving our office.
It's really cool inside, as it still has some of the original PO boxes and parcel post window:

We'll be incorporating these into the office layout.

The side facing away from the camera, is the original proprietor's quarters, which were up until recently being used as a rental unit. We'll be freshening it up (new paint, carpet, appliances, etc.) and renting it out for some extra income, while we renovate the store side. Much work there...complete heating system, some electrical work, etc. We hope to have the office up and running prior to next tax season.

The original proprietor is currently a permanent resident of the graveyard across the street...pretty interesting.

Dave, did you get this place and get it setup? Enquiring minds want to know how it turned out?

The interesting thing about this house, is that nothing is built at a 90 degree angle. Everything (By quirky design) is either 105 degrees or 95 degrees. I destroyed my landscaping by driving the all-terrain lift around the property, so that is all going to have to be redone next. Doing a project on this scale, completely by myself...is something I will NEVER do again. All in all, I ended up reframing about 20% of the house. The back of the house is a 2nd story deck, which was replaced, in order to complete the back half...since it overlooks a ravine/creek and I had no way of getting the lift back there. Have I mentioned that I'll never do a project like this again? Ha.
