If it's the same color as the 930..... I vote don't change it.
Nice car.

Keep the original color. Paint to sample is a rare option and if original paint, adds to the value of the car. Also, take the seats to a good upholstery guy. They can fix the seam splits pretty easy and cost effective. Hows the dash? Love mid years.

Absolutely leave the paint alone. I think it looks great and as stated, it's a super-rare factory color. No-brainer there.

Great looking car!

Embraer 11-17-2013 08:21 AM

definitely going to keep it the stock color. question...would a '77 have solid black centers on the wheels, or would it have had the polished petals?

the dash is perfect...rest of interior is great. targa top has been rebuilt. the front seats are the only issue.

In 1977, there was an option for either chrome trim or blacked-out trim, (sort of a transition time between all cars having chrome and all having black). I know that most '77s I've seen had silver Fuchs, (NOT polished from factory-Porsche never did that), can't say for sure on the black centers.

Is trim on car chrome/stainless or black? Is it original? Sometimes it had been changed to black by owner on those years to "update" the car a few years later. At any rate, they are all the same wheels and can be easily changed from silver to black and vice/versa...

Just to clarify: the factory finish on Fuchs wheels in the '60s and '70s was an anodized finish covered with clear coat to protect the shine/color, not polished alloy. Polished Fuchs have always slightly rubbed me the wrong way because I think that the factory got it just right. Not as bad as chromed Fuchs, (and not irreversible or ruin the rim like chrome), just not quite right.

Same with polished lips. They are supposed to look like this, (my old SC with rims re-anodized and cleared):

I feel like I'm back on the tech board for a minute there...lol.

Embraer 11-17-2013 04:16 PM

he had the tensioners done in june of this year. whoever did it, didn't get the gaskets right, and it's weeping oil from the cam covers. (onto the headers, causing smoke).

the black part on the hood is plasti-dip. (removable bra...not a bad idea, I guess)

here are a couple of more pictures from today:

Glancing at factory '77 brochures seems to show that Turbos had black-center Fuchs while non-Turbos had silver-spoke Fuchs or cookie-cutters.

My Fuchs' are about as original as possible. No polisched parts, clear anodized aluminum with black petals and black anodized center caps. It is the original factory understated look. My favorite.

I love your brushed targa bar. I wish mine had the chrome trim instead of black.

Is this your '79--the one listed in your signature?

porwolf 12-13-2013 05:23 PM

Yup.

BE911SC 12-13-2013 05:26 PM

I'm learning here so bear with me. So a '77 non-Turbo should have silver-spoke Fuchs or cookie-cutters and from '78 (to '83) it would be an SC and have 6 and 7 black-center Fuchs (or cookie-cutters)?

The irony is that the brushed Targa bar and the bright aluminum window trim cam with the standard version of the 1979 SC models. The black trim was a more exensive option.
