Another Impulse buy..back into a 911!

Well, bought a midyear targa tonight. rebuilt motor, tensioners, head studs, etc all done. One of my coworkers drove his car in tonight...I had helped him with some technical stuff about it in the past. He's a really senior guy at work...he asked if I wanted to buy it since "finding a new owner was like finding a new son in law"

For the price, I could not resist!

never had a targa before...never had a midyear.

As much as I like the Ferrari...there was a certain sense of joy I got from driving a 911 again.

Pictures to follow.

Once you get that 911 cruising the streets you won´t be single for long. I hear the midyear targas are real cougar magnets.

Congrats! I really like the narrow body mid year cars, they are more subtle than the newer cars.

Ok...just got the car delivered from my coworker tonight.

I was curious about the color....it's painted slate grey metallic..which I knew wasn't a factory color in '77. Figured it got repainted at some point.

Anyway, I checked the paint code...and sure enough, it's a pretty rare "paint to sample" that wasn't officially offered. It's Anthracite Metallic. I had an idea to paint it continental orange, put steelies on it, and then lower it. ...but something tells me to leave it the original rare color. what's the consensus here?

some very bad cellphone pictures:

Congrats! Very excited for you.

Hard to tell the color due to the lighting, but in general I'd lean towards keeping the color original if it's in decent condition and something unusual/rare like a paint to sample.

OK, I like that one. ^^^^^^^

But I'm biased because it's a 930.

Sweet. Looking forward to hearing/seeing more.

Someone once told me that Porsche owners do not pick the color, the color picks the owner.

I say have a crap ton of fun in that color. Don't mess around with paint unless it really, really needs it. Spend your energy ( and $ ) on more advantageous tweaks and upgrades.

Just sayin'.

the paint is a 10 footer...little door dings, but nothing too bad. the interior is perfect (except for the front seats...the seams are split on both). I loved my 912 in slate grey...but it was non-metallic. the car was such a deal, and if it would have been hot pink, I still would have bought it.

it's already got SSI's...im thinking after fixing leaky valve cover gaskets, it's time for an M&K.

then pretty much drive it.

And you know the drill. Improve the things you touch every time it's driven. Gearshift knob and/or shifter, steering wheel, door handles, turn signal assembly, etc...

You really need to start thinking about some external home illumination

Congrats on the 911. If it's anything like the 930 pictured it will look amazing!

I vote keep the original color, it looks great on the 911.
