Mini-Mac chainsaw....nice! Worth freshening up if you are so inclined. I used one for years and it was very handy. Good score, HO!

Absolutely. A bit too small for a lot of work, but a few months after my Dad's accident (fractured pelvis, age 84), he bought himself a McCullough Mini, made a walking stick with a long lanyard and went up on the hill to cut bushes. It was the right tool for the job.

The guy wouldn't budge on the price but he threw in the chainsaw and the vintage stapler to boot. I'll clean up that vise and replace this cheap Craftsman that makes me mad each time I use it.

You sir are the ultimate haggler.
How do you go from getting a lower price to throw in a stapler and a chainsaw and we have a deal? :D

Just a guess: the guy need $X for Christmas. 'I can give you more stuff, but I can't take a lower price'.

herr_oberst 12-11-2024 07:06 AM

^ Similar. He's moving house and needs to clear stuff out. The MM will need TLC (carb work) and the stapler has no value as a working tool; only good for vintage nostalgia and a cool steel box.

I'm pleased with the Wilton. It cleaned up beautifully; the original green paint shows well with good patina. The jaw inserts are intact (it is missing the pipe jaws, kind of a bummer) but this tool works great and everything about it proves to me that it hasn't been abused. I think it's money well spent. The size will take some getting used to, but I'd rather have too much vise than not enough. I may try my hand at making a vintage decal for the inset.

I just bought a set of Infinity Column II speakers off Craig's List for my son for Christmas. He'd sent me the link late last week. He knows how good they sound as I'm the original owner of a set.
The ones I bought have had the crossovers recapped, all the driver's refoamed, and all the driver's have the original paper cones too. The cabinets are mint as well. Only thing missing was the tempered glass pieces for the top of each speaker. I had some clear acrylic cut that matched the size of my glass. They fit perfectly.
I think he's really going to enjoy these for a lot of years to come in his newly built ADU.

OH, and I paid less than what I paid for mine new back in '78 too.

herr_oberst 12-11-2024 12:25 PM

I like the Column II's; down firing bass driver makes so much sense to me. I just hope you don't have to ship 'em to your son! Those are big boys!

I saw recently some guy in Colorado (actually, not just "some guy", it was Paul at PS Audio, ha ha) had a set of IRS Vs' for sale. I think they went to Idaho, if my sources are correct.

Scott Douglas 12-11-2024 02:07 PM

No shipping involved. Just a day trip down to Oceanside then delivery to Poway. Done and done.
And yes they are big, but not as big as my Crescendo 3008's are. I still was able to hide them behind the couch, out of sight but definitely not out of hearing range.

Scott Douglas 12-11-2024 06:25 PM

My son just sent me a picture of the speakers installed.

The wife advised me yesterday that the 40 y/o cushion floor in the basement was no longer meeting expectations. Saw an ad on kijiji for about 145 12 x 12 ceramic tiles for $90. They are now in my garage. They will do the utility/lounge room.
The fellow I got them from built his house with milled "logs". I am guessing his math skills weren't the best when he calculated the floor area.

Coming down the home stretch clearing out everything from my Mom's house. Down to just what was in the attic over the garage now. Had a friend help me get everything down. Much easier for someone to be in the attic handing stuff down to someone in the garage, which is how we did it. It was a LOT of stuff...too much to list but here are a few of the items......

A whole big box of those "states" plates in the last pic....

Bunch of Christmas lights, cards, and decorations. Cooking pots and pans and glassware.

Two sets of golf clubs with three carry carts. A fold up card table in it's original box.

Couldn't pass up this Hamilton Beach mixer today. 1938 model, look at that chrome! The mixer comes off the stand also and becomes a hand mixer but it easily weighs 15 pounds. Somehow the pyrex bowl stayed with this thing all these years. It's a custom piece made for the mixer.

There was an ad on FB, from Home Depot, for some Milwaukee tools. A 3/8 ratchet, drill, battery and charger for $99. It took a while to get, but it was a good deal over the regular price of $199 dollars.

Nice...those will come in handy!

Another facility move resulted in material deemed not worthy of shipping. I scored these 4 bays of shelves for the garage which are 2’ deep. Also, got three bays of the same shelving type at 18” deep for one of my Sons in Law.

Was also a $h!T ton of Unistrut, brackets and hardware from many of our systems mock up and testing equipment frames. Grabbed a bunch of that. Built a resto dolly for the 911, kept a small amount for a couple of future ideas and sold off what was left for $250. Felt like a year end bonus, LOL.
