Nice! Are those Gov't surplus? Or just some very big glass for the civilian market?

civilian, mostly for astronomy. There's a group of folks that use and/or prefer binoculars for stargazing.

don't really want to post a pic, but I was looking for a light duty safe to store documents and a few quasi-valuables (nothing to opulent)

Anyways scored a great condition recently made American Security 700lb safe for $800 on FB market place. 3500$ safe online and crazy overkill for my application, but why not at nearly the same cost as a new chinesum lightweight safe from a big box store.

Moving it almost killed me and my wife though.

Wow, that's a heck of a deal!

These were left on our business park next to our unit. I found them Monday morning, let them sit there for the day to make sure they hadn't been left for someone to pick up, then moved them into our secure area in the evening 'for safe keeping'. I left a note to call if anyone was looking for them. No call by the end of the week, so brought them home. One had a totally shredded mains cord, so I figured they'd both need work, hence the abandonment.

Checked them out with my meter, and one needed a new plug as there was a disconnect inside the rubber molded plug.
One working wine fridge!
The one with the shredded mains cord has a variable speed compressor with an inverter drive board. Fitted a new mains power cord and everything seemed to be giving the correct voltages up to the inverter board, but nothing coming out. Inverter windings all checked out though. Found a replacement inverter on eBay for $26 with free shipping.
Two working wine fridges!

I'd been planning to build a dedicated wine cellar in our basement, but these do the same job for a lot less effort. Total cost about $45 and three-hours work.

The leaf sucker my neighbor found on the curb and brought it to me like new from 1997 i got it running and sold it for 50. And I got the 4x6' windows for free from my construction friend. he leaves stuff by his dumpster and i go picking occasionally. I sold them for 100. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1661379599.JPG

Hey Baz,
Apologies for the forum party foul..[emoji2957] didn’t see the rules, my bad

The wifey n I have been doin some stargazing with some ancient binos I grew up with. Started looking around and found these bad boys. Scored them for $175.00. They are in great shape and can’t wait to get them into service. At eleven pounds, a mount is required. This leads me to my latest CL score. Found it listed in Reno, so drove up today to take a look and ended up bringing it home too. Guy was firm at $150.00 since they sell for a quite a bit higher. We now have options for upgrading to a large telescope. The seller was very informative to the inner working and fine tuning for celestial observations.

Thanks!
All civilian, stargazing application. Not sure how old they are or even still available. Regardless, since they came with their own case, we can take them to the coast to look out at the ocean and stargazing.

Can’t wait to pull over to an overlook where folks are using their wee little binos. We will swagger up next to them and whip these bad boys out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4bc387703a.jpg

Just picked up a Fujifilm T-T1 IR from CL.
Full Spectrum infrared camera direct from the factory.
It will record the spectrum of light from UV to infrared.

I was looking to buy one several years ago, but they were $2500 and restricted to Medical, Police or forensics investigators, with proof.
They would not sell them to the general public. Dexter could buy one, but I could not.
I got it from a guy that was allowed to buy it.

It has opened my eyes to a whole new world.

No harm done, Bugs - and thanks for the info! Good to have you back on the forum, brother! SmileWavy

That's cool. How much did you have to give for it, if I may ask?

jcwade 08-25-2022 07:02 AM

$550

Oh. and I meant X-T1 IR.

Scott Douglas 08-25-2022 07:53 AM

That's cool, jc, I wonder how that compares to having a camera modified to do IR. I know a couple of Sony users have done that over on Talkemount.

The main difference, as I understand it, is in the converted cameras they remove the filter that blocks UV and IR, the factory version keeps the sensor cleaning intact.

Also, it is done by the factory.

I have heard good things about Lifepixel and Kolari Vision and was going to have one converted until I saw this one come up on CL.

On a full spectrum camera, you have to add filters to your lenses for the wavelength that you want. The good filters are expensive, and I am waiting for my order from Kolari Vision.

Here are a few of my early attempts with some cheap filters.
