Picked up this Dake 25 ton press off of Facebook marketplace. Gave $300. Dake has their own hydraulic system. It's not a car jack or just a hydraulic cylinder, but an actual system. That's why they charge $2,500 for a new one. I particularly like the adjustable ram which you can position before you start pressing.

We have that very same one here at work, it's the bomb!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Nice buy!

I have that same tombstone Lincoln. It is one heavy welder. As little as I use it, I would sell it to someone, but it would have to be a local pickup, it is way too heavy to ship without spending a lot.

Picked up a Danmar scissor lift for $150; I probably could have talked him down some more as nobody seemed to know how to move the thing.

Ive been looking for a mill for a long time. Most Bridgeports are going for $2,000 or more. I found one on Facebook Marketplace yesterday that was in really nice condition, had boxes for tooling, and 2 vices. The guy wanted $1,000! So I texted him and said i'd give $1,200 and bring the money within the hour.

Stony silence until the next day. I got a message that I was second in line and if that deal fell through i'd get it. Well, the guy who bid above me took it. So I'm bummed and feeling sorry for myself. I figured what the hell, I'll try FB marketplace again. Saw this Well Index mill and the guy was like, "first $300 takes it!" The ad was 26 minutes old. I messaged him that i'd pay $400 and pick it up within the hour.

this time I got it! He called me and as I was getting his address, he told me his phone was blowing up. So I got this obviously "needs some TLC" mill and a box of tooling for $400. But the kicker that made me think the eBay, Craigslist, FB Marketplace gods were smiling on me is that there was a 6" Kurt vice with a swivel base bolted to the table!!!

Great score on that mill , a little oil and time she'll be making parts ! What's the first project ?

cmccuist 02-01-2020 01:22 PM

the first project is to shave the heads on my air compressor. I put in new reed valves recently, but the heads had a few nicks in them from when the reed valves snapped. Probably 0.015" will clean those up.

Nice mill, and the price is almost like getting it for free. I'm sure it'll take a lot of work to get it fired up but it will be worth it! (Keep us posted, maybe a whole 'nother thread?) Even got's a power feed!

Here's the closest I'll ever come to a Kurt...

HaHa! that vise is awesome. Yea, I'm an experienced machinist as I have a drill press and several pedestal grinders. And I watch a lot of youtube videos.

Oh, did I mention the Wells also came with a Jacobs chuck!

I will start a thread for the restoration. But it will be awhile as I am finishing up a project in Belize (yea, sucks to be me). That's right on the heels of finishing a project in Jamaica and before that one at the Captain Morgan rum factory in St. Croix!

What would a new version of that mill cost?

Their cheapest mill with no power on any of the axis (axies?), no DRO, etc is $15,000. But you get a better motor, no belts, better ways...

Went over to Mom's today to help her with a few things and as I was leaving saw this curbside a few doors down.

Some decent condition electrical components at the very least including this nice little light fixture complete with bulbs. Have not tested it yet.

Pretty creative wiring configuration. My guess is it was used for a work bench application.

You find more things at the curb! All I see at the curb around here is dogsiht.

We have that too!

Since I have slowed my business down I don't drive around as much so don't get as much as I used to. Which is a good thing...lol.

Today on "neighbors" someone posted a pic of some white PVC fencing sections someone was throwing out. It was only a few blocks away but I figured it would be gone by the time I got there plus today was garbage day so I didn't even go look.

It helps that my DD is a Silverado too! :D

Speaking of curbside; there had been a small steel legged table (sort of thing you would put a photocopier on) outside someones house with a "for free note". It had been there for two weeks by the time I noticed it. I thought it would be handy outside my place to unload groceries etc onto, making it easier to unload the car.

Aaaargh, someone stole it over night. I slightly suspect it may have been a neighbor who thought I was lowering the neighorhood by having this rubbish outside my house.

So I replaced it by buying one from the dumpshop (cost me $5, heavens forbid) but this one I wired to the front fence and placed cut off nail spikes under it to cause sever grief to any table thief.

LOL I get so much pleasure from little things.

Finally got around to testing that light fixture and turns out it has one cool and one warm white bulb.

How appropriate for someone like me. :D

Half warm, half cool... Depending on who you're with at the time?

rfuerst911sc 03-15-2020 02:57 AM

Baz it takes 10 minutes to eliminate the ballast and then you can run LED light tubes . Much brighter and longer life .

I'm putting the final touches on my shop and have been looking for a lathe for awhile. There have been several candidates, but always too far away to justify. I finally found one that was close. The Facebook Marketplace ad had been up for 20 hours when i texted the owner. I was in Belize at the time and asked him if i could pay now and pick it up in a week. He was super nice and said no problem.

That's how i ended up with this Monarch 10ee. There was one pic in the ad. it was advertised as a "chucker" lathe. I knew that Monarch didn't make many chuckers. i verified that it was indeed an ee. I bought it sight unseen. It came with an "import" quick change tool post holder, steady rest, Hardinge 2j collet chuck, 38 collets, 8" 3 jaw chuck, 11" faceplate, and taper attachment.

I was able to pick it with my $30 Ex-cel engine hoist - also a garage sale find. Couldn't believe my good fortune.

I gave $1,200 for it. As we were loading it up, the owner told me that about an hour after i paid, he was offered 2X the money for it - $2,400!! He said he would give me the contact info for the guy if I wanted to sell. What a decent man to honor our deal! He didn't know me and didn't owe me anything. Faith in humanity restored.
