been thinking about a Boxster

I think I'm getting soft as I get older the 914/6 GT clone and the 911SC coupe are starting to feel a little rough. So been thinking about getting something newer but still sporty. Instead of weekend toys like the 914/911 this would be a daily driver. This one is at the top of my pricepoint but wondering what others think of this one ? Local to me and I just have been looking online. Also not opposed to a BMW Z3 or a Miata or a ??? Looking for sporty but with some creature comforts. Fire away !

They are fantastic cars. I had a 2002 2.7. Loved that car. The 05+ cars are nicer from a creature comforts angle, because the convertible tops were much thicker. Much quieter and warmer.

Given the mileage, you'll want to do a deep PPI and see what sort of records are available.

Seems high.....the Miata is something I would consider. Price, parts and other upgrades are cheap in comp with the Beemer and Porsche taxes.....

Accessibility to the powerplant and the proven bomb proof engine are a huge plus in my book.

If you have never had a Boxster before consider reading "thinking of buying a Boxster" in the 986 forum. Lots to read there.

I have had a '99 Miata and then went on to a 2001 Boxster base. The latter is so much more car than a Miata. Have had the Box 2.5 years and would have bought a 2007 Cayman if my wife had said yes but she said no instead. Man card gone!

Did not consider the BMW z3 or z4. My Box has great air cond. and heated seats.
Just love it but may not be my last Porsche. Do look at other Boxsters as you can get a feel for what is normal in terms of sounds. Turn ignition on and make sure all lites light up especially the CEL one. Of course PPI is a must. And the requisite pics when you have made you choice. Enjoy the ride....Check service history, accidents etc?

I drive one every day. I have a 97, the one you are not supposed to buy, and it has been flawless. 150k+ on the clock and I have not been easy on it.
As far as the newer one being warmer, you won't have that issue where you live, mine is plenty warm and I am in a slightly colder climate than you.
So far as getting a low mileage one, I would rather have a well maintained one that gets run more often, that is just me.
I am 6-4 and all my height is in my trunk, I have short legs and I fit in the car with no issues.
I love this car for the simple fact that it is fun as all get out to drive, comfortable, low maintenance, very reliable and did I mention fun?
Get used to the hair dresser jokes and inform people that you are an interior designer.
I would strongly recommend a Boxster to anybody who just wants a turn key daily driver that is comfortable.
The only drawback, carrying stuff. The wife wanted to pick up a shower curtain rod lest night while we were out and I just looked at her.........
You can forget carrying someone with you and any long guns.
I was asked what I would replace mine with when the time came for a new car and topping that list would be another one. They are great little (inside) cars. They are whales on the outside.

Fantastic cars. My 986 got 30 MPG on the highway, was dead reliable, and was in many ways better to drive than a 911. Having driven my dad's 2012 Miata with a 6-speed and sport package, I can assure you that the Boxster is more car in every way. The trunks are actually very practical, true you cannot carry big items but there's more storage space than a 911. The one you linked to is priced pretty well for a 987S assuming that it looks good in person, all I could see in the pictures was some wear to the climate control knobs. The 987 has a nicer interior and more power, but just be aware that the same money will buy you a mint and very low mileage 986S. Try for a 2003+, they got a heated glass rear window that won't eventually fog over and crack like the earlier plastic ones.

The lights look yellowed, the front grilles are so faded that they are white, the paint looks a little dull, and some of the interior looks faded. For a daily driver, I would keep my Audi A4 wagon for hauling crud and get this for alternative daily driver. Just one question, how are these cars in the snow? like if I drive it to work and there is a freak snow storm am I stuck at work or could I get home? thinking midengine should be ok.
