You and me both. My time in the Navy was like a vacation compared to what most service members go through.

Drafted in 1968...but made the best of it. Luck was no small part of it. Sent to Greece, assigned to SASCOM. In my artillery training battery, 187 of 220 guys went to Nam.
That is a stat that will stick with ya.

+1. My time in the USAR in the 80's was a cakewalk compared to now.

Never served, my father served in the Dutch military.....It was the actions of the Canadian soldiers liberating their country that brought him here to raise his family. Blessed are we who have never had to see the battlefield in action....... Thanks for your service.

USAF, active duty Jan 77 to Jun 2002....called back and presently serving part of each year in the USAFR

Those of you who served in peacetime...don't sell yourself short. You signed up with the same risk and endured many of the same hardships...and there were certainly difficulties serving during a cold war. In the military, we often live and die by the luck of the draw (timing). I lost/was diverted from a great special ops job when I applied to OTS and the guy that won my job was killed in action the next year (would have likely been me on that mission). Thanks for your service.
