Buh-bye Comcast!

Now that I figured out how to get NFL Redzone without them, Comcast was officially cut off 10 minutes ago.

HD Antenna+Internet+Hulu Plus+Netflix > x100 Comcrap.

d-bags!

p.s. any company that has such bad customer service it would drive customers to spend the better part of 2 weeks trying find alternatives and cut them off really, really needs to look hard in the mirror.

Ditched Comcast cable, HD, DVR, HBO, and internet about 6 months ago. Now have Apple TV, Hulu, Netflix and different internet provider. Cut my cost from about $180 (about $20 in taxes alone) a month to $50. I am very happy with my decision. I do miss sporting events, but I have figured out a way to get around that. There is so much content you can get on the internet and it is getting better everyday.

If you join Amazon Prime ($79/year), a lot of shows and movies are no additional cost. Amazon can be streamed through a roku box (which works great) or any game console.

Comcast was running everything in our house - internet, TV, voice - and the bill had ratcheted up to $213/mo. I dropped the voice which will cut the bill to about $130/mo. The kids tell me they don't care if we have cable TV, since they watch everything off Netflix, Hulu, Cucirca, and over-the-top providers. Not sure if having cable TV to watch bike racing, F1, cooking shows, local TV, etc is worth $60/mo. On the internet, Comcast does provide me with great service, very fast and very reliable, so I'm keeping that service.

I ditched my cable and got a ROKU box ($99)
(If you have an internet-capable TV you don't even need this.)

and I have a Netflix sub ($8/month)

Then I just bought a nice outdoor digital antenna and spliced it in where the cable used to come in the house. 30+ channels! 10 good ones.

For the amount I watch TV, which isn't a whole lot, it's great!
If you're a big sports watcher, it might not do it for you, but it doesn't bug me.

I guess I thought biosurfer had found a good dish-based internet provider. My bad.

My bill was $197 last month and I I couldn't justify it. The straw that broke the camels back was I called in 2 months ago andsat on the damn phone with them for an hour to get them to credit me back fees I should not have been charged...guess what, two months later they tell me there were no credits due (calling me a liar).

NFL Mobile is free with Verizon, and Redzone is part of that.

Just bought an OTA HD antenna from Amazon (I also have prime) so hopefully it gets a couple channels...that should suffice.

Thanks.

I need to look at coverage where I am with a digital antenna.

The reason we went DirecTV 20 years ago was the over air reception brought in three channels.

Not a big sports watcher, but I do like to sit down on a chilly Sunday afternoon and watch the 49'ers.

Worth a look. Thanks again.

With the amount of Commercials they have on cable TV they should pay us to endure them.

Pretty interesting: The Digital TV Transition: Reception Maps

All weak signals at my Zip Code (20650) with a 30 foot outdoor antenna.

I'll let you know what kind of reception I get from the antenna but I think it's decent enough, maybe 30 channels (only 10-12 I would care about)

And I agree with hard flex...Comcast makes the customers pay and they also get ad revenue..nice scam if you ask me!

I just did this a few months ago. I am not able to pick up much (rural area), but we do have netflix streaming.

My reception goes from great to crap all the time it is aggravating.

About the only reason I even got an antenna was for the wife. While I don't have a problem with the "steps" needed to watch whatever I want on Netflix, Hulu, etc, she doesn't like to deal with it and usually just likes to have something/anything on in the background while she's working around the house. If she wants to watch something specific, well she will learn

If you're in an area where this works, it's super cool.

https://www.aereo.com/

We don't have it in Seattle yet, but I signed up on their list to show Interest and have asked other people to do the same.

They basically put a board with hundreds of little HD antennas into a datacenter in town where they get good signal, and then transmit the broadcast signal over the net.

The cable companies have been trying to shut them down, but since each subscriber is using a single tuner and antenna, just located remotely, they haven't succeeded in doing that.

This is the direction I'm looking at too: antenna, Roku and Netflix. Antenna TV will tell you what is available in your area and what type of antenna to use.

Paul... Fwiw we have a 40' tower and get about 15 channels with good reception. When I enter our zip (73620) it shows almost nothing for us. Might ask your neighbors and see what they say.

We get really good HD quality on all our channels, way better than wasting money on TV.
