New spoon coming for the little guy!!!

Well yet another long hoped for moment came for me recently. Took my 9yr old to shoot sporting clays with me and he loved it. Didn't like the recoil on my beloved Wingmaster 20ga but the borrowed semi auto 20ga he shot (Winchester 1400) was much easier on him. He says to me after we were done "Dad I really like that gun, it was fun to shoot'.

Bless his heart I swear I didn't push him to say it!

So I have a Beretta 391 20ga that I had intended for him to shoot eventually but it turns out the 28" bbl is just too heavy and cutting the stock down to a proper length would just ruin the balance.

Began the long search (fun!) and finally scored a Franchi 620VS youth model for him. Nice short bbl and a LOP that should be perfect. He has no idea and will be getting surprised by it on Christmas morning.

I swear i'm not sure how i'm going to manage to wait that long!

Very cool. I still have my first spoon and it will stay with me till I croak, then my son gets it.

Yep I still have my 3 shot bolt action J C Higgins .410. Got it when I was 12. I'm glad you didn't buy the Win 1400. They have a problem with the shell stop that is a tough fix if you can find the part.

I begged my parents for a BB gun when I was a kid. They said no dice. "Guns aren't toys". Bought me a .20 gauge and taught me to shoot it.

Check out the low-recoil skeet/trap loads available from Kemen. Dunno how they do it, but significantly less felt recoil (plural of anectdote is data!)

Found a source for fiocchi lites and will order some of those. Will look for the kemens as well. He shot 7/8 oz 1200fps loads and was fine but I don't want to risk a flinch developing.

Check out polywad as well. They have a vintager load that is low pressure/recoil.
