All my $ are listening to DylanYo ;)!

Responding to real idjuts is a big enough task....is it not?

Bitcoin just crossed $40k again...still holding Tom???

If I did the math right, your $200 Christmas gift should be worth ~$14,000 now, no?

Tom '74 911 07-30-2021 07:08 AM

Wow, time flies. I can't believe I started this thread in 2013!!

I traded my Bitcoin gift for US doll hairs long ago. I don't remember what the value was when I got out, but it was enough to buy myself a set of SSI headers and a nice stainless Dansk muffler for a 2.7L engine I'm still working on assembling... : ) : ) I sent my forward-thinking brother a big thank you for the original gift.

I try not to pay attention to what Bitcoin or stocks are doing on a short term basis - it makes me too crazy... but I know it's been a wild ride!

Best,
Tom

I wouldn't consider BTC an investment. It's speculation. Granted, for many, it seems to have been a lucrative speculation.

Many years ago, I thought about buying some (big money, $10 or $20) as a novelty. I guess I should have.

With high "value" comes high transaction costs.

high transaction costs kill the utility.

IOW, tulip bulbs have value too.

THX Spammer for dredging up this thread!
Any opinions changed? Anyone still HODLING? I've been accumulating BTC, ETH since '17...haven't sold one. Added LINK to the portfolio and bought and sold that coin. Staking ETH rn and generating about $3500.00/month at these prices. Great to see some of these names again...I gotta lurk more often! Best, Jim.

I mined -I profited 150%, I sold... ...and learned about blockchain in the process. Figure I;m ahead but I didn't make a million or buy a pizza for 120M worth of bitcoin - so...

sc_rufctr 01-30-2023 08:15 PM

I just sat back and watched... :(

I have sat back and watched a lot of opportunities that turned out to be a mint. I don't feel bad at all. I invested in real estate, and I have done well.

Since you can now buy a US based bitcoin ETF does that mean that it is actually moving towards investment status? Expenses can be reasonable at 0.25% or lower.

Money has been pouring into them. I dropped 10k into the Blackrock ETF, IBIT, on Feb 6.

Thoughts ?

1 Bitcoin will always be worth more than my 1500 shares of Enron :D

And I can't get THAT entry off my statements ;)

My friend got me to invest in BTC back in 2017. I put in a bit more than the wife approved, but she was OK with it when she saw the balance when crypto went gangbusters. I had a magic number I wanted to hit, then I was going to cash out. Welp, the market knew my number and said, 'nope, we are going to tank just before you get there.'

I HODL'ed longer than I should have, but did cash out my initial seed money, and left in house money. Fastforward a couple years, I threw in another chunk and converted most of my assets over to ETH. Things are trending in the right direction, obviously, so I am happy.

Side story, I built staking server [ETH = proof of stake] just under a year ago. You know, make my ETH work for me. I have made about $3k of that little guy alone.

Not retirement $$$, but it is the diversification I was targeting.
