This happened to me, 7-8 years ago:
I had a guy run out at my Porsche. I wasn't speeding. Not even close. He jumped on to the road, yelling and waving, acting like a madman. I stopped. Rolled down the window. He said "slow the **** down." I said " how?, I'm already stopped." He ran at the car, tried to kick the quarter panel. I did speed away. He actually chased the car for a bit, like a mad dog. |
Good idea to report it to the police. Yours may not be the only car he has lunged at. The guy may be nuts and need to be "attended to" somehow.
I was driving slowly down a road near the Mississippi in southern Illinois and a snake lunged at my car. It was door handle high when it hit the front fender. I have no idea what motivated it. |
this kind of thing happens when i drive through the suburbs with my car. i had a dad litterally run out of his garage, down the driveway which was not short, and stand in the middle of the road and try to cuss me out. of course i wasn't speeding, stopped in front of him without trouble, and then told him to call the cops on me if he wanted to so badly.
then i did a burnout and left. i mean clearly if that fat moron had been able to hear me, drop what he was doing, run out into the road, and be there for me to stop with plenty of time to spare, there was no safety concern for him, or his kids. suburban dad's ... always seem to be self Righteous sons-of-*****es also dudes on harlys on the back roads .... always wanna be cops. |

Are you running straight pipes or some other really loud exhaust on a 911? What kind of area? Rural/suburban/urban? I know it's not urban.
EDIT: This was for post #145, Craig. |
Craig, clearly you are at fault here. A considerate neighbor would turn off the engine and push his car through the neighborhood to avoid offending anyone who may be trying to rest. - Matt

You guys need to drive slowly through your neighborhoods. Usually, the limit is 25 mph there. Is that so hard for a few blocks?

I may be way off base but I'm throwing it out there: There seems to be a common theme in this thread: having a loud exhaust angers some people and makes them think you are going faster than you are (besides, it's illegal). It also attracts extra attention when you ARE speeding. Being slightly obnoxious to others sometimes gets the same back in spades. Show of hands; how many of us like cars with loud exhausts hot-rodding in or around our neighborhoods? Instead of buying a dash-cam, you might want to contemplate spending the money making your car a little more quiet. Either way I hope it works out OK with no serious problems. |

I'm sorry but I'm probably with your neighbors on this one. I like the sound of an engine breathing well but properly muffled, especially on the street. Yours must be obnoxious if everyone is pissed-off at you. You might want to consider a different muffler on a street car, that one might sound like schit. |
Typing the same time as Sammy...Jebus, we're on the same page a lot lately.
|
Oh I'm always in first gear going thru the neighborhood that way I cant go over 25, that's their problem if they think I am going fast just because of the engine rpm
|
Maybe try second gear and a different muffler. I'll bet you'll get a lot of thumbs-ups and smiles.

if a fat man can run down his suburban drive way in time to get in front of my car, and i can stop in time to not hit him, there is no possible way you are exceeding the speedlimit, or driving unsafely.
wanna-be-cop self righteous suburban dads can just get the f over it. |
Lucky for me I live in a rural area (although not too far from a big city crawling with Lambos, and Ferraris, and Porsches), so around here my 911 is an oddity. Therefore, there are few preconceived ideas toward me and I haven't gotten any of the hassles described in this thread.
Rather, as some have mentioned, I get only friendly questions at a gas station, or a wave out on the road - or even offers to buy the car. Some point and spill their beer, wondering what that funny car is as I zip by. Occasionally somebody passes me for no reason, so what. Life is good. |
My neighbors used to kid me about leaving early in the morning, but this was not a daily thing. I'd keep the revs as low as possible and lumber out, still making a racket. The '73 has headers and a pretty straight dual exhaust
