Who Is Getting A Flu Shot And Why?

Flu season is starting early here in Portland, with doctor visiting spiking in Dec vs a normal start in Feb/Mar. 5 have died, including two relatively young adults. This year a H1N1 strain is circulating, which is harder on young people.

Do you get a flu shot? Why or why not?

My wife and kids always do, I do every couple of years. No particular reason when I don't, just because I never got around to it.

Yes, I got a flu shot.

Why? So I don't get the flu, I guess.

I have to get the shot annually as a requirement for hospital vendors. I'd get it anyway because I feel it helps minimize the effects of the bug but I don't think it provides immunity.

No.
I hate needles.

nynor 01-04-2014 10:51 AM

i did. because i am literally forced to do so in order to maintain my employment. it is, IMO, a scam. note how the flu shot has incrementally been made to be more mandatory since the early 1990's. someone is making a lot of money off the mandatory requirements for flu shots.

Get it every year now, early in the season. My days of invincibility are far behind me now...

Yes. Every year because my wife says to. :)

I got the shot at the local CVS, no apointment and took just 2 minutes.
The needle is the smallest I've seen, really tiny never felt it.

So this winter if/when I get sick and and my head is splitting in half with cold shakes and loss of 15lbs on soup for a week I wont have to wonder if a shot would have prevented this near death experiance. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/pukeface.gif

DOD makes us all get one, but I'd get one one my own anyway. My family gets one too.

I have a compromised immune system, and currently still getting chemo, so it is highly recommended.......yes, I got it about 2 months ago.

Yes, every year. I'm on Humira an immunosuppressant for my Crohn's Disease.

Went in for a routine check up a month and a half ago. Doc recommend I get one so I did.
First one I've ever gotten. Germs just ricochet off me now.

I got the Flu shot just after Halloween. I was sick for almost 10 days after the shot....apparently my body did not agree with this years serum.... The symptoms I had were minor body aches, and congestion... my RN girlfriend, and my Dr. said I was one of the lucky ones who didn't agree with this years shot....

I feel fine now...

herr_oberst 01-04-2014 12:13 PM

I wish I would have gotten one; I was flat on my back last weekend. The flu hit me fast and hard, like I've never had the flu before, and I'm still shaking off the effects.

I have been getting the flu shot annually for the last 10 years. This year, I got the shot and was sick for the next week.
