Oh Haha 03-09-2014 03:31 PM

My wife rented "Prisoners" today. Hugh Jackman was excellent as the distraught father.

I could see my self doing similar things if one of my kids were taken.

Jake Gynthal's acting was ok but not fantastic but it may have been the character he was playing.

The ending was not what I was expecting.

Old aviation documentaries:
'Ways of a Warrior- the Jimmy Doolittle story'. Fascinating.
'Whittle- the jet pioneer'. Equally so.

A lot of the movies listed here have them, like "may the force be with you"..
"I coulda been a contenda" ..."You can't handle the truth" ...."What are yootes?"
(from My cousin Vinny)

This year I liked ..."Look at me, look at me!..I am dee Captain now!"

Rhona Mitra in "Doomsday" (2009) Sci-Fi flick I watched on FXM last night....

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cKVBRdfNwy...onaMitra_2.jpg

What a movie!!!!!

Cross between "Mad Max 2 Road Warriors", "Max Max 3 Beyond the Thunderdome", and "The Omega Man".

And Rhona reminded a LOT of Kate Beckinsale in "Underworld" and "Van Helsing".

GREAT movie - watch if it you can!

Almost hard to recognize Peter Fonda as the hardened Pinkerton agent:

"We Were Soldiers" is on right now.

AMC - started about a half hour ago.

flipper35 04-08-2014 12:53 PM

Second Hand Lions is a pretty good story. Robert Duvall and Micheal Caine.

techweenie 04-08-2014 12:54 PM

Often overlooked film based on a Kipling story:

The Man Who Would Be King (1975)

Yes.....both of those movies with actors who are legends...Caine, Connery, and Duvall. Just think of all the incredible films they have starred in over the years....a few notables for me are "The Great Santini", "The Ciderhouse Rules", and "Highlander".

Trvia question (no fair googling) - which famous actor actually played Kipling in TMWWBK?

=======

"We were Soldiers" is a hell of a movie- I've seen it several times and love it. Mel Gibson and Madeleine Stowe are really great as well as Greg Kinnear, Sam Elliot, and Barry Pepper.

======

Remember this one? Here's the music score by John Williams and some highlights from the 1979 classic by Steven Spielberg.

BINGO!

Good call TW.

I thought his role was performed wonderfully in the movie, and deserved some recognition in the thread.

If you like VERY dark films like I do, American Psycho is a hoot.
