Peter Weir also directed Master and Commander. Another excellent movie.

The local theatre has become a revival house while the virus rages. We went to a matinee of Willy Wonka this afternoon.

Oompa Loompas are even creepier on the big screen.

It was a very good cast, as you say, Steve. One of Ford's best performances, IMHO.

Yes indeed, Peter. I saw it in our local theater when it was released.

And so many other fine films:

Harrison Ford used to be a carpenter, actually. I want to see Mosquito Coast again, as I remember it was good and I’m a fan of Harrison. Regarding Henry was also good.

Harrison Ford may be a doofus in person and I don't know as I have never met him, but he has a talent for picking a good movie to act in and then does a good job. There aren't many "bad" Ford movies.

Stumbled across a movie yesterday on HBO that made Brian's Song (old guy reference) seems like a slapstick comedy.
Old fashioned, a bit over the top predictable and cliche, but definitely pulled at the 'strings. Well done.

I'm really glad I saw it and was reminded me that things are just fine, I have no reason to complain.
it's called "My All-American".
Based on a true story, I'll be watching it again.

Fog: We're sending somebody in to negotiate!

[Corben walks into the room and shoots Aknot between the eyes. As he falls, the other Mangalores drop their weapons and bow over him, keening]

Korben Dallas: Anybody else want to negotiate?

Agreed. I also like... "The Right Stuff". Back when movies had the balls to show some American pride.

"First Man" was good but the lack of a flag planting was rather obvious.

Yes. They made some good movies back then. I have not seen First Man yet. Maybe I will look for it later this week.

Last night I watched "The Terminator" - until I fell asleep. Now that was an excellent movie!

Right now on cable IFC, "Argo". Followed by "We Were Soldiers" and then "The Hunt for Red October".

I have errands to run so just watching Argo - but what a great lineup, huh?

I like the Ray Harryhausen-esq special effects.

One of my favorites. Not for the special effects, just a solid well told story.

Plus Arnold's character was allowed to kill people.

I caught the last part of a movie the other day that is stuck in my head: The dead don't die.

it is so bad, so dumb, so weird, all I can think is that they made it that way on porpoise to create a cult movie.
I mean it is really weird and really bad. So bad I want to watch it from the beginning.

So I guess it worked ???

Critical response
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports an approval rating of 55%, based on 290 reviews, with an average rating of 5.81/10. The site's critical consensus reads: "The Dead Don't Die dabbles with tones and themes to varying degrees of success, but sharp wit and a strong cast make this a zom-com with enough brains to consume."[15] Metacritic assigned the film a weighted average score of 53 out of 100, based on 52 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."[16]

PopMatters wrote "It's a curious film, one that acknowledges the end of the world blatantly without once forgetting to be steadfastly, almost dementedly, silly. It's a smart if minor work from a masterfully innovative director."[17]

The New York Times said "Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die respects the horror genre without really committing to it."[18]

The Hollywood Reporter said of the film "At times, the deadpan of Murray and Driver becomes, well, a bit deadening, and true wit is in short supply, even though the film remains amusing most of the way."[19]

The Black Stallion is on TCM right now. Great movie! I remember Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert's review of it on At The Movies when it first came out.

As always on TCM....commercial free!
