A bit late to the party I know but just finished watching the film Senna

Well worth watching if you are into motorsport of any description

Baz 05-02-2015 03:38 PM

Haven't see it yet, Captain so I'll be later than you...lol. Thanks for the review.

OK movie fans....tonight on AMC it's a Dirty Harry fest!

"Magnum Force" is just now finishing up with "The Enforcer" on next (in about 7 minutes).

Next will be "Sudden Impact" and after that "The Dead Pool".

I watched most of "Sudden Impact." I remember seeing that one on the big screen. It has that great scene at the end with Harry and the automag in silhouette.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430638236.jpg

Love this dialogue at that murder scene near the beginning:

Burly Detective: What do ya think, a gang hit, screwed-up drug score, unlucky John, or an unhappy love affair? Huh? Don't tell me this ****'s gettin' to ya. Not Harry Callahan. Say it ain't so.

Harry Callahan: No, this stuff isn't gettin' to me. The knifings, the beatings, old ladies being bashed in the head for their Social Security checks, teachers being thrown out of a fourth-floor window because they don't give As, that doesn't bother me a bit.

Burly Detective: Come on, Harry. Take it easy.

Harry Callahan: Or this job, either. Having to wade through the scum of this city, being swept away by bigger and bigger waves of corruption, apathy and red tape. Nah, that doesn't bother me. But you know what does bother me?

Burly Detective: What?

Harry Callahan: You know what makes me really sick to my stomach?

Burly Detective: What?

Harry Callahan: Is watching you stuff your face with those hot dogs. Nobody, I mean NOBODY puts ketchup on a hot dog.

Oh Haha 05-03-2015 04:42 AM

Caught the last few of Magnum Force and then the first few of SI last night.

Without looking it up>>>>>who plays the rock star that is taken out in his trailer?

IMO, the early Dirty Harry movies are the best.

I just saw it and can't remember if he was someone I knew - great trivia question, Wayne. I give up - who?

And I agree - the first 3 Dirty Harry's are amazing classics!

On Bravo right now - "Coming To America"! ;)

Oh Haha 05-08-2015 05:48 PM

Jim Carrey! Whilst making the "video" he does a lot of the same moves he would use as Ace Ventura. The song was of course "Welcome to the Jungle". I think some of the members of GnR were in the movie, too.

I'm watching a documentary on the Lusitania on Nat Geo. Less famous than the Titanic but the story is interesting.

Coming to America is one the best EM movies. I love the barbershop scenes.

Wow - didn't know that - thanks, Wayne.

Love documentaries! I really do think this is EM's best film - it's a masterpiece and of course extremely funny!

^ Good one, NC!^

You know Arsenio (Semi) was also really great in that movie.

"Argo" in about 12 min. on FXM. I'll watch it again - thought it was great!

Here's what I thought about this afternoon after watching "Whiplash" last night:

The JK Simmons character always looked hopeful when he raised his hand to start the band or a musician. He might be instantly disappointed and he was always ready to fly into a rage, but Simmons nailed his optimism.

Great movie. I'm not much for Jazz, but "Whiplash" is a pretty rockin' jazz number....

(Speaking of Buddy Rich...

Always fun to hear BR railing against clams. NSFW. NSFcivilization!)

I just tried to check that out in the trivia section of the Sudden Impact page on IMDb, but no dice. Didn't care enough to compare the entire cast list to the entire list of past and present members of the band.

I did find these hilarious tidbits, however... made the search through the trivia section well worthwhile:

The production company had to keep a diver on the set during the filming of the climactic scene filmed on a pier in which Callahan shoots the bad guy. When the gun would jam, which it did frequently, Eastwood would in a fit of rage throw the gun a considerable distance into the water. The diver would retrieve the gun, which would be dried out, repaired, and reloaded for the next take.

When Clint Eastwood campaigned for Mayor of Carmel (Carmel-by-the-Sea) in California in 1986, he used bumper stickers that said, "Go Ahead - Make Me Mayor".

James MacArthur (Dan-O from Hawaii Five-0).

The father in the movie sounds just like my dad in the scene after arriving home from the police station.

His Mother was Helen Hayes

Arrrgghhh! I got mixed up, too. I had watched the end of Sudden Impact, then the beginning of The Dead Pool with the scene showing Jim Carrey. That's why I couldn't find GnR members in the cast listing... they're in The Dead Pool.

Axl and Slash... both shown as "musician at funeral" - uncredited
