Can anyone walk me through the reasons for the (ahem) interesting noses seen so far for 2014?

The Ferrari F14 looks like an anteater. The Lotus looks like a vagina. The McLaren looks like a penis. Not very promising. Why has the aero tide shifted from high noses to low noses?

the FIA have lowered the nose front cross section legality requirements.

This was done to reduce the chances of following car riding up and over the leading car in a rear ender or punching through the side of the cockpit where the driver is positioned in a t-bone.

The teams have worked around the rules, basically the things sticking off the front of the nose are the minimum cross section required in the new low position. This helps lift the bulk of the nose as high as possible which helps clean up and mximise the ariflow under the the car to the rear diffuser.

Safe to say the FIA are not happy with this as the funky nose shapes is now more likely to penetrate a cockpit. Expect this loop hole to be closed up for next year.

Could be worse and invite the Delta wing to the orgy
