So then how are they not moving aero devices? I thought suspension pieces had to be a symmetrical airfoil.

I'm not familiar with all of the details of the rule. These are in a grey area, I think.
We'll see if they stay on the car... JR |

There is a "box" so to speak that the suspension design can fit in - this fits in the "box".

I thought there was a rule that the fore-aft length of a suspension piece could be no more than 3 times its height (or something like that).

Here is a good article on the McLaren 'butterfly' wishbones.
A closer look at McLaren's butterfly suspension - F1technical.net

I have to admit, the V6's don't sound too bad. They don't have the high pitched scream that we've come to associate with F1, but they certainly sound "extreme" (for lack of a better description). Cool technical whine to them as well...

As a 930 guy, I love those turbo noises: the whistle, the waste gate.

No wastegate on the current f1 engine, boost is controlled by the ers in the turbo.......

Ah, the good old days. Sure do miss the sounds from the V10.
Fingers crossed for this season, only up from here. |

They sure don't sound like F1 cars, but they do sound great!

I miss the days when they ran v12s, v10s, v8s, all in the same season, or when you could have flat 12, v12, v8, or turbo v6, or turbo inline 4. Whatever you wanted as long as it was within the equivalent displacement rule.

That's the driver screaming, hoping his regenerative braking is going to work as intended on the way into the corner.
Watching that video... the cars sure do look slow this year. Obviously some of them are barely running but I hope they don't look like that all year. Coming out of the corners, they looked like they were on a cool-down lap. JR |

New rules on noses, wings, and width of car have made an attempt to reduce cornering speeds, so that may take a little time to sort out.
