are you into go karts ?
Just curious how many of you are into go karts ? Not the off road type but ones made for pavement. I guess there are shifter karts and then ones that are centrifugal clutch type ? And child size vs. adult ? Someone local is selling a Shadow chassis without an engine and it got me thinking about it. Like I need another money pit

I built one a few years ago for myself.... errr for my kids I mean. Pretty simple and seriously fun, especially in the snow.
I'm didn't google shadow chassis, so not sure how serious a kart you're thinking. Mine is very NOT serious, just fun... Building a Go Kart - geometry questions ![]()

Been wanting a cart for some time but I have no place to put it. Figure when my wife and I upgrade to a house the list of toys will expand to include a kart and a dual-sport bike.

![]() Happier times! Number one rule of karting is find out what the locals are racing. If there's no-one supporting the chassis that you're racing winning just got 10x harder.

Coworker's wife no longer allows him to race. I guess he rolled it a couple of times, his kid came home and told mom.

Neck braces and Rib protection are worth their weight in Gold. I did have a wreck with out my rib vest and broke 4 ribs. I have seen one guy break his neck and another guy who broke a few ribs and punctured a lung. It's a sport, not like golf where you might twist your ankle.

I walked into a pro kart shop when I was 18 with a fist full of hundreds.
The guy looked at me and said, you're too big. Go find something else to do. I went to another shop and was basically told the same thing. Then he suggested i sit in a racing kart he had on the floor. He was right. I'd have to have a custom kart made and would be too expensive and uncompetitive. Too bad, I was all ready to get into it. |

this^^^ Check your local club. No use to buy an obsolete Kart you can't race.
Raced 125 shifter 15 years ago and got into karting again last year. I really did not want too but my kid forced me .. ![]() First year I was instructing him, at the end of the season he was faster with 2 secs a lap. I blame it on the 100 lbs weight difference... It's an absolute blast. Great learning curve for the kid and nice people at our club. Got a toy hauler, sleep at the track...a race weekend feels like a mini holiday. ![]() ![]() |

I just picked up from fellow pelican David (formerly Shifter125) three karts and an extra frame (80 and 125 shifter plus a KT100 centrifugal clutch) .. I live 3 miles from the Reno track and can run unlimited laps for a measly $250 a year!!! Great way to sharpen my racing skills!!

We picked up this kart just to run around our subdivision (private road), it's a Lesure Industries chassis so nothing very special mechanically.
Still a lot of fun though ![]() ![]() Brian

No, these are 2012 Birel with 4 stroke Lo 206 Briggs Animal engines. Lots of fun for low $$$. It's much better for Sam's driving skills driving this engine. There is a relatively large group of his age driving the class great sportsmanship among these kids.
The engine is sealed, hard compound tires and the weight set at 280 Lbs making it very competitive. I drive the same engine in the "old fart" class. our weight is set at 360 Lbs and again, relatively low cost and lots of fun. ![]() |
