Sadly it's time to say goodbye.

He had not been himself for the last week.

Took him in Monday.

They found a mass the size of a lemon where his liver should be. Looks to be spreading to his lymph nodes as well but the worst part is his lungs are filling with fluid so he's slowly drowning to death.

We've said our goodbyes and we are taking him in now so he does not suffer.

After 16 years gonna miss him.

He's had a good run.

See you on the other side Turok.

Sorry to hear, but you gave an animal a good life. That's the best you'll ever do with them.

That's a darn good ride for a cat. RIP

My wife lost her six year old rag doll to stomach cancer last fall. Got rid of the cat tree, scratching posts, toys etc. She swore up and down no more cats.

We now have two shelter Siamese that are the most entertaining cats we've ever had.

I've had 3 cats live to 16 (or more).
Only one died alone.
All 3 are planted in the back yard under their own flower. I still say "Howdy" to em' on a regular basis.

Sorry for your loss.

Definitely not a fun time you are having.

Our 15 year old Calico is on her last legs and we will be going through the same drill in the not to distant future. Amazing how attached you can get to a cat. We always say "this is the last cat" yet that hasn't happened yet and probably never will..

Sorry for your loss, as I know all too well how hard it is to say that final goodbye. 16 years was a good run, and I'm sure you know how much he loved you.

I feel for you but if it helps... The best you can do is give them a good home while they're here.

When you're ready get another one and do the same for that one.

Very sorry for your loss, Scott.

16 years is a long run but it doesn't make it any easier.....we've all been there.

Turok is out of pain now and had a wonderful life.

Keep him close to your heart....he'd want it that way.

Thanks all.

Jut got back.

He went quietly.

My wife found him as a kitten outside her school 16 years ago.

He had been on the loosing end of fight with something and was torn up pretty bad.

We took him to our vet and offered to split the bill. He spent 2 weeks there in intensive care then he needed rehab at home. We were only supposed to keep him a few weeks until he was healthy again. Yeah right.

He had arthritis and had gone deaf a few years ago.

He also had a thyroid condition that we were managing with meds but the meds caused weight loss and he wasted away from almost 20 lbs to 11. So 4 years ago we did the Iodine 131 therapy and it worked. He got back up to 16 lbs which is where we maintained his weight to help with the arthritis.

He was a good boy, very sociable, more like a dog than a cat. When the doorbell rang he would stroll over and greet whoever came in. Never ran and hid like our other cats. He loved dogs.

He was very chill, I always imagined his human voice would be like Jeff Spicoli's.

And yes, the name is from the Valiant Comics character. My company owned Valiant at the time and we had just released the first video game, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. We named him Turok because he was shredded like he'd gotten into a fight with a T-Rex.

Thanks for the followup info, Scott.

Seems like most of them we find as abandoned kittens...and who with a heart can leave those behind?

And I know what you mean about Turok acting more like a dog - my Kinger was like that - makes 'em a little more special for sure.....

So funny.

I plucked two kittens out of a tree in a thunderstorm sixteen years ago. One still lives. The male, Dexter, who died three years ago, was Spicoli. The female, Didi, is Mary Tyler Moore.

Odd but true.

I love cats and treasure Didi. In sixteen years, no dog has walked this house without respecting the Didi.
