They started bonding the doors and hood together. Carey says they are perfectionists in gaps and it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the door gaps just perfect. Some of that is due to the doors extending into the roof line.

Work continues. Doors are hung (check out those beefy hinges) and they're working the gaps. The hood was also fitted and hung. Once the rear half is hung and fit, it all comes apart for priming, blocking and painting. Only a few more months!

Are you doing anything to improve the ventilation to the cockpit? I have heard that getting hot is a problem in those. I saw a Miata with a little round vent that was apparently from an airplane on the little triangular window in front of the one that rolls up and down. You don't have a quarter window on a 904, I don't think. I guess you could make more than one style of plastic window out of lexan without that much trouble. They slide fore and aft I believe, rather than rolling down.

Do you per chance know the accuracy of the body dimensions of this compared to the original? Is there changes to "cabin" area for creature oomforts or left true to the original? I've really been interested in going down and paying a visit to Beck about these cars. They really look nice. |

Doc, I plan on fresh air vents from the nose dumping under the dash with a cable control to shut off the air flow. A/C is an option I didn't want. Depends on the state. In Texas, as a specially constructed vehicle.

Not a lot to report, but the oil cooler, rear vents, and headlight openings were cut and the fitting of all components continues. This is the "you have to build it twice" approach. Build it to ensure it all fits, then take it all apart for paint.

I love this build - I am inspired by your progress and determination.
Obviously time and Beck have perfected the fiberglass-to-chassis bonding issues. But I'm curious, if someone made one of aluminum, would it perform much different than the fiberglass? Especially now that we can drop in such a glorious powerplant as that 3.6? |
I suspect it would, as I would expect aluminum to be much stiffer. On Mr Reid's car, the strength is going to come from the frame, on the original, the body would to the strength to a greater degree, or that would be my expectation.
