The original 904s were fiberglass bodies bonded to a steel chassis. For an aluminum body bonded to a steel chassis, look to the Cobra. Here is my 289 FIA Kirkham Cobra which is an aluminum body bonded to a steel chassis via forming and rivets.

Last of the fiberglass work, installing headlight buckets:

BTW, I sold the cobra to buy the 904.

Fantastic! Details are getting exciting!
Does this car have a plexi windshield or a glass windshield? |
The windshield and side windows are safety glass.
Work continues on the window frames and engine grill: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411179234.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411179250.jpg |
I always thought the 904 was aluminum body, like the 550, you learn something every day, sometimes two or three things.
|
The fiberglass body like the original was one of the things that made it more appealing. However, I've built a bunch of replicas:
1963 Austin Healey 3000 (Classic Roasters Sebring MX) 1941 Willys Coupe (Outlaw Performance) 1954 Ferrari California swb (Precision Engineering) 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe (Factory Five Racing) 1965 Ford GT40 (Race Car Replicas) 1964 Shelby Cobra 289FIA (Kirkham) |
Time for an update!
Oil cooler and ducting installed. This is cool as the oil cooler air flows through the front of the cooler and out the wheel wells to the brakes: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413039884.jpg Pedal set all welded up and assembled: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413039925.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413040001.jpg Dash fit up: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413040067.jpg And finally, a-arms all welded up: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413040129.jpg |

Not really much to report. Gas tank complete and hole cut in hood for the filler. The car is now at the paint shop and should be painted by end of December. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1417273557.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1417273577.jpg Polished up the window frames and trim: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1417273616.jpg |
This is a very exciting day, she's out of the paint booth!
The color is Albert blue and it looks darker in these pictures. Once it's color sanded I'll post some pictures outside in the sun. I'm getting excited now! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418171921.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418171939.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418171957.jpg |
I hope you've got a set of Biodes/Ampliluxes for it.
|
Wow Mark... just wow. That is one sexy beast!
|
One of these days, we're gonna have to talk about this one:
1963 Austin Healey 3000 (Classic Roasters Sebring MX) I've always dreamed of building a healey with an M3 straight six engine. |
Yeah, that Classic Roadsters Sebring MX with a Mustang 5.0 in the early 90's was a monster!
However, the kit was one of the worst I've ever seen. |
Looking really good. The craftsmanship is seriously impressive.
|
Beautiful!!!
