Thanks, Berk. I'll call this week. I want to drop the engine in next weekend and could use 7 or 8 hands!
Glad to hear you are progressing! |
Well, got a lot done today!
Engine is all together and I even installed the fuel pressure regulator in the car and started making the engine wiring harness. Just need to trim, crimp, and install the plug wires and in she goes. Ordered the MSD boxes and coils, but still need to fab oil and fuel lines. Pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445820177.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1445820205.jpg |
Whoa! 40s or 46s?
|
46s. Hope to drop it in this weekend.
|
Well, I finished the fuel system install. Unfortunately, I bought a flywheel for an 80 3.0 thinking it was the same as my 78 crank. No such luck. Found the correct 78, but won't have it until next week, so engine doesn't go in this weekend. However, here's a pic of the PMO regulator and fuel filter all plumbed:

Wow it finally hit me, been watch this beautiful engine build coming together. But didn't realize that it is going into the 904 that been coming along.
That is going to be sooo nice. Can't say why it alluded me but what a great moment when that last pic cleared the air for me. SWEET COMBO! Cheers Richard |
You did not get flooded or anything did you? I seem to remember you were near SA
|
We got slammed with all the rain, but my house is on top of a hill. On Friday I looked out the front door at about 7:00am. These stone stairs come down from about 20 feet up. The water was pouring down like niagra falls! The second pic is the front porch. The water was about 9 inches deep and rising as the drains in the front yard couldn't keep up, but no problems.

No flywheel, so plug wires and engine harness. Check!

There's going to be a video of some "sweet music", right? ;)
|
We can only hope!

The correct flywheel showed up today and went right in followed by the clutch!
The $100 20 ton harbor freight press earns its keep once again. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446836650.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446836672.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446836695.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446836719.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446838127.jpg |
nice but the cheesehead at 2 o'clock looks under-torqued by 2-3 ft lbs, give or take.
|
Damn, I though I got them all. Thanks for the assist!
So, how many jacks does it take to install an engine? Three, actually a floor Jack, an ATV Jack, and an engine hoist. I think the thing that is killing me the most on this builds are the various nuts, bolts, and other hardware. Anyway, here are some pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447012966.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447012992.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447013016.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447013038.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447013058.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447013095.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447013138.jpg |
Progress! Are you sitting there making engine noises yet?
|
Heck, I've been doing that for months. Once my wife caught me sitting in the car driving the Ring in my mind, including engine and tire noises. I told her I was preparing the car and speaking to it in its language, you know like baby talk...she told all her friends.
|
Very cool, but damn you're trusting of those straps :)
|
They're rated at 1,000 lbs., just keep them away from sharp edges.
|
I gotta say, it's so refreshing to see a build exactly done right. Well done.
