Bought my wife a 2014 CX-5 Sport on Jan 31st. She and I both like it a lot. 2013 only had one engine available. 2014 models get a larger engine for touring and grand touring. Ours has the smaller engine. Seems adequately powered but that's about it. Shift program is definitely toward economy, but tranny will down shift when you get on the gas.

Radio is complicated, but seems to work well once you've figured it out. Sound quality on speaker phone is terrible. Callers complain of lots of background noise. All our Mazdas have been that way. Haven't had a chance to see how the a/c does in an AZ summer. We'll see how that goes.

Base model seats are comfy. Cargo compartment carpet is way cheap. Bought the $50 cover... it's made of real carpet instead of the low grade stuff from the factory.

She's getting mpgs in the low 30s with mixed driving. At about 3000 miles, my wife has no complaints about the car. Says she'd definitely buy it again.

I love the Sky Blue color. It was discontinued for 2014. Available on early production 2014s, but gone for later production.

ive heard the carpet is crap and that the 2.5 engine is what to get. Im also seeing reviews that the transmission feels like its never in the right gear but i know it has the manual mode to get around that and i would probably be happy just not having to shift any more. the older i get the slower i drive and the more i really hate shifting in a daily driver.

how does the inside material feel otherwise? plastic and cheap or decent feel? I have read the knobs all feel fairly high quality but there is a lot of plastic throughout

I think everything but the carpet is fine. Sport model does not have a leather covered wheel, but this one doesn't feel as plasticky as others I've experienced. As far as materials and feel of switches, etc, Mazda interiors are very nice. Just wish they didn't cheap out on the cargo compartment materials. The OEM accessory carpet piece is what should be there from the start.

This is the first automatic my wife has had in 25 years and she's very happy with it. I think it shifts very smoothly... just early to pump up the gas mileage. Bigger engine should help a lot with that.

Wife bought a CX-5 a month ago, the Grand Touring with probably every option. Its pretty nice, and drives very well, runs on regular, requires "0" grade synthetic oil.

Regular gas is a plus for sure.... one of my favorite Mazda benefits is that they have timing chains. Never have to worry about changing a belt.

Must be a pretty good engine for Toyota to use it.... Toyota will use Mazda's Skyactiv engine in new subcompact - Autoblog
