Sent you a PM. My friend at Rogers Corp. would like to see your resume.

rattlsnak 04-23-2014 09:44 AM

The same company that bought your company bought ours a few years ago and I got laid off as a result. I hate those *****ers.. lol..

craigster59 04-23-2014 09:47 AM

At least you're young and still marketable, not like us old guys! SmileWavy

Matt, sorry to hear about your situation. Same thing happened to me last August, after 26 years with the same company they made the choice to centralize my job to another state an I was not willing to back to the north. It has been a real eye opener for me. I had not updated my resume in years and was not really familiar with Monster, LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor and all the other websites used in today's employment search. But there are jobs out there and you just have to network, network, network to find them. This website is a good place to start and I wish you all the best in your search.

Matt, only two things I can say: I feel your pain. Even if you know it's coming you always hope it doesn't happen to you. And as hard as it is to do, try and enjoy your forced vacation a little bit. You're going to be working again, summer is coming, and you're industry is hardly going away.

Oh, yeah, the drone manufacturing that's happening in Hood River, Oregon seems to be expanding all the time.

You're very qualified, great work experience, reasonable industry, and mobile even if your wife might prefer otherwise. I think you'll find a better job in an equal or better location.

But, just in case, maybe you should post a list of your interesting possessions. Any nice guns? Hey, trying to help.

I'm sorry to hear this. I wen't through it in 2009. I saw the writing on the wall in 2008 as the economy was crashing and decided to buckle up and attempt to ride it out, rather than get ahead of it...company had other ideas and gave me a package. First time since I was 14 that I was ever unemployed. I contracted for a while to get a lay of the land and eventually landed full time employment in 2011.

It's but a series of opening and closing doors, and even though I'm certain good things are on your horizon, it does little to soften the initial shock of it all. Be strong!

Matt, it's unfortunate that this happened but I feel like it will be for the better. And they obviously didn't realize what they were doing when they decided to let you go. Good luck in your search and I think it's a great sign that everyone here is so supportive. (p.s. I was trying to get you to laugh via 'The Bobs') If there's anything I can do for you here in Virginia, let me know...

If we were closer, I'd suggest we meet at the bar to complain notes.

The manager (from our competitor) did the "ummmm, yeah" from Lumburgh during my exit interview. I just about laughed out loud.

mossguy 04-23-2014 10:55 AM

Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com is a great search tool. Lockheed seems to have lots of openings.

onewhippedpuppy 04-23-2014 11:09 AM

Yup, working Indeed and LinkedIn pretty hard right now.

Some active 'gubbement' contractors....

CACI, MANTECH, M1 Support Services, URS - to name a few...

Are you Matt in Wichita on Linked in? If so is that the most up to date info? I know it's very new but are you considering leaving Kansas at this point?

Tilikum Turbo 04-23-2014 11:31 AM

Where one door closes...another one opens.

As a professional, do you have a good profile set-up on LINKEDIN?

Good luck!

livi 04-23-2014 11:31 AM

Sorry to hear this, Matt. Best hopes for a better future. SmileWavy

Correct, profile is up to date. Yes, in fact I really expect to relocate. Aerospace in Wichita is dying a slow and painful death. I believe the workforce is approximately 50% what it was in 2008. Boeing is gone, Spirit is losing money and has recently laid off, Learjet is losing money and has recently laid off, Cessna lost money last year and then "merged" with my former employer. None of the major OEM companies are very healthy.

BTW, I never received your PM.

vash 04-23-2014 12:06 PM

good luck FRIEND!

i'll email my Boeing friends.

fast_e_man 04-23-2014 12:07 PM

Matt,

sent you another PM, Please send me an updated resume & cover letter. I will forward to program leadership that have recently posted open positions.

Ed
