Laid Off Today

Saw the writing on the wall with this one for quite some time. We were recently purchased by our primary competitor, the housecleaning started today. The organization that I was working in was duplicated in our purchasing company, and it's hard to unseat an incumbent. The process is repeating itself across the company, it appears there won't be too much left. 750 salary jobs gone today from a company that only employs 3000, and over half of those are hourly jobs. For those of you in aerospace any help would be appreciated, here's my basic info:

8 years of project/program/flight test leadership roles of escalating responsibility
Track record of project success
Experience in experimental prototyping, new product development, FAA Part 23/25 certification, component certification/qualification, military ISR/ASE/weapons systems design/integration/test, aircraft maintenance and modification
Current DoD Secret
BS in Aerospace Engineering, Business Management minor
Halfway through an MBA with 3.8 GPA

At this point I'm obviously looking nationwide. Email is mattjessup3 at gmail.com. Thanks!

Dude that sucks! You can do it!

sc_rufctr 04-23-2014 07:50 AM

Good luck with your search Matt.

Sorry to hear about your job getting axed, Matt. Unfortunately, the only help I that can provide you is my best wishes for short "vacation" before landing a great new job. SmileWavy

Space-X is hiring like mad. Calif, TX, FL

Good luck in your hunt!

I went through the same thing a year ago Matt. It's a very unsettling feeling to drive home after being laid off. Best of luck on your search - IMO you are the guy who will land on his feet regardless.

That sucks Matt. Hope the job search goes well and that you can try to enjoy the time off when possible.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-23-2014 08:27 AM

Sorry to hear it Matt, you'll land in something new and better in no time.

recycled sixtie 04-23-2014 08:41 AM

Matt I am sure with your qualifications and experience you will get another job.
Don't take it personally. You will do fine. G.

When one door closes, another opens. You'll land on your feet Matt, no doubt. Relax, get your game plan together and enjoy some time with the family.

Matt, as I recall you were considering a job move anyway, but felt your wife would be reluctant to move. This may give you an opportunity to make an "involuntary" move!

Hads930 04-23-2014 09:04 AM

You have a PM

stomachmonkey 04-23-2014 09:09 AM

That sucks.

Sorry to hear.

I will give you $12,500 for your 996.

Hope you find something soon.

ledhedsymbols 04-23-2014 09:19 AM

I'm not at work this week or next. I'm in classes for Allen-Bradley PLCs and Profibus. When I get back in a couple of weeks I can check Boeing's internal job postings. Should be almost the same postings on their main careers website.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I have only been back to work for a year. It's a scary time. The good news is that smart, skilled, educated people tend to land on their feet. I'm sure you will too!

LeeH 04-23-2014 09:31 AM

Sorry for the bad news. Just sent a note to a friend at Rogers Corp. Will let you know if I hear back.

Damn vultures are moving in already!

Por_sha911 04-23-2014 09:32 AM

Congratulations. You have an opportunity to get something better.
The very best job I ever had was after being unjustly laid off from the previous company. It is in a better field and with a major pay increase. What I thought was a bummer turned out to be a blessing. Remember that all your talent, skill and experience walked out the door when you did.

I'll be praying for you to find something even better.
