Lockheed in Arizona is shriveling. Don't go there. Your choices with Lockheed are upstate NY or Nevada if you want aerospace right now which should be apparent if you look at their postings. Don't take anything in Goodyear.

I don't think we're through consolidation from the great recession yet. I took a forced package vacation myself in 2010 and enjoyed it quite a bit. The first few weeks were tough as a reality check but i had a war chest that combined with the severance gave me comfort that really replaced any career plan that was destroyed. I was okay to move on. That's the tough part when you're bought into what you do. Let it go and refocus.

Before layoff, I had been working long hours without necessary resources and was nearly burnt out... my teams were understaffed by 50% and I was the only salary for 900miles so it was a relief. I went 3mos without a day off at one point and that's no way to live regardless of pay. Enjoy the break, network and lighten your load as best you can. Don't take the first job that comes your way next. Choose the right company. I've learned over years that there are far better places to work than others. Some companies are toxic from leadership down, others are a delight.
