Windshield Tint
Thinking of tinting the windshield on the mk6, due to the fact it is blazing hot whenever I get in the car to go to classes. I do like to drive at night so I'm thinking 35%, opinions?

I think any tint effective enough to keep the interior temps down would seriously compromise night time drivability. YMMV
Just toss up on of those shades that sits on the dash. Far less hassle than dealing with the popo all the time.

I have 70% on my BMW up front. Less glare, not noticeable, and I would say it does help slightly when driving around with it 115 outside....
At night you don't see the difference... I have a black car in AZ- so that requires a cover...

When I got my side and rear windows tinted it made a big difference. In conversation I asked about windshield tinting and he said you had to have a prescription from a doctor stating you had some sort of sensitivity to light. He said you have to look like a vampire and never be in the sun or the cops will ticket you.

EDIT: I just realized the question is about Windshields-I have tinted windows but not windshield. Opps.
I love it on my daily driver. I don't have it on the 911 because I want to retain as much of the stock look and I don't drive the car every day. If it was a DD, I'd put the tint on.

Isn't there a clear tint that blocks the sun and/or heat? That's what my tint guy said.

I just bought a 2010 G37 coupe as a second daily driver and I cannot stand the dark tinting on the side and rear windows.
The windshield has a band on the top and is also slightly tinted below. If I keep it for long, I will end up with a nice ticket from a not so nice cop. It also detracts from the looks of the car and makes it look like a gangster is driving it. Not all people who have dark tinted automobiles are gangsters but all gangsters' cars have dark tint.

I think my state allows non reflective tint on top 5 inches of the windshield but I usually just stay with what came from the factory. I have tinted to the allowable limits on a few vehicles in the past. Lately I feel too claustrophobic in a tinted car so I stopped tinting the sides and back windows.
If it's your car, tint it like you want.

Years ago in FL my grandfather got some REALLY light tint on the windshield. Honestly, it was so light that you couldn't really tell that it was there, but since many, most of them do block UV light, it probably still helps. I would think that something like that might be OK and might slide past the cops, but most places don't allow anything on the front other than possibly a strip across the top. I like that for glare when the sun is low in the sky.
When the car is parked, I use one of those silver foil reflective sunshades which should work much, much better than a tinted windshield. That also makes it legal.

Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line (Arizona).

IIRC, there are clear UV-blocking tints, which should help with solar gain.

Dude, it's pretty fantastic. It's not even the glare/sun reduction that was the best part. I never even considered getting my windows tinted when I had my 944 but the PO tinted the windows on my 911 and it makes such a difference with ambient temperature inside the cabin. It was way cooler inside the 911 with black interior and tinted windows vs the tan interior and non tinted windows in the 944.
For you in AZ it'd probably make a huge difference.
