do calorie counts affect what you order when you eat out?

I wouldn't think it would but it did.

On the way to NY to see my brother. Stopped at Applebee's for lunch. Everything here has the calorie counts and they are way high. I typically eat a very light lunch when I work. Maybe 500 cal. Everything here was ~1000. I know this is a NY thing...but I was surprised that I let it influence me.

(Please skip the usual "I don't eat that salty crap..." judgement on the road....need to eat and kill some time.)

I eat relatively few meals out so when I do, I usually don´t care about the calories.

21 meals in the week.
One meal per week, go for it. Whatever you want.
The other 20 meals, yeah, be cautious and careful.

Absolutely! Extra rich, over the top, is the order of the day. If I want low-fat trash vegetable plate I'll stay at home.
Ribeye (Pittsburgh), baked potato with butter and sour cream, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, coffee with half/half and please show me the dessert menu!

I want to die with a smile on my face and a piece of bacon between my teeth.

No, not really. I keep a tally of my carb intake which I feel is more critical than calorie counting.

When I eat out, I usually am pretty full and don't eat for the rest of the day. Or very light for dinner.

No, like Sarc I count carbs (I'm type 2 diabetic).

We are on a tight budget so don't eat out much and we try to eat healthy at home... so when I/we do eat out I tend to go ape $hit crazy... had a big plate of chili cheese fries the other day... about once a month I go for BBQ, half rack of baby backs with grits and greens... last week, boys night out, Hula burger (burger smothered in sautéed mushrooms)

I think I gained five pounds just typing that.

Isn't Applebee's a national chain? I have seen them in a few states... not gourmet eats but when you are on the road, they have a bar and it is a notch above fast food... did I mention they have a bar?

I do. I also try to let the colors of the food point me in the right direction.

85% of the food at Applebee's comes from a pre packaged plastic bag, so I've kinda been off it lately when traveling.

See I was waiting for that....just like UPS, this thread delivers.

My point was that at home we dont have the calorie count on the menu. Besides find me a healthy alternative for 5 people just off the hi way in Yonkers.

No, I try to eat decently, but don't think about calories.

Not familiar with Yonkers, but when we travel with the kids to see family in Central Illinois, we pack the necessary provisions (nuts, fruits, clean protein bars, etc) to keep everyone satisfied. If we stop to eat, it's usually at a Panera.

Yeah I have little kids so there was food in the car. I eat gluten free and so does my wife, which ended up being salads.

I think the mayor of New York forced that this be on the menu like no 20 oz sodas. I wonder if it influenced behavior. I did mine and I was surprised about it. I usually eat ”relatively" healthy, but surprised that a Cesar salad was almost 1000 calories. Compared to my usual frozen lunch at work. I was shocked. People eat these big meals every day. I'm not judging, I just can't eat too much without feeling ill. I'm hardly the picture of health either.

Not usually, but if the other guy's buying I order the most expensive thing on the menu. Does that count?
