And Paul (PWD) was not a problem. The worst he did was go on about his distaste for the monetizing of longhoods and how the brotherhood and soul of the hobby was being lost. Perhaps he got a bit carried away at times but his griping about something so simple does not deserve to be associated with the nonsense being spouted in PARF these days.

Actually, I think PARF has become a bit more gentle (predictable and boring) while OT has gone the other way. I believe it is because folks that would normally engage in battle in PARF have bought into the premise that folks with the temerity to argue politics and/or religion are somehow inferior and socially unacceptable...so they bring their issues here where they keep from being one of "those guys".

It is no different than pre-PARF. All a person had to do was look at the thread title and stay away if it was something they did not want to discuss...but it was easier to ostracize those folks/threads to PARF and claim superiority. Now they can be smug, take shots at those they disagree with, and dismiss those who they disagree with as PARF escapees. Most of them spent their time in PARF...had poor arguments they either couldn't or chose not to support and ended up here.

It is still as simple as it ever was. If you post your stuff here and ask for an opinion ("look at my...."), we assume that is what you want, whether it is your '68 soft top targa that you added 4 wheel drive, 22" wheels, a wing made of 2x4s and suicide doors, the Mona Lisa you painted a mustache on, or your highly-modded significant other. A post titled something different than what you really want to discuss or a post beginning or ending with "don't PARF this up" is guaranteed to degenerate/fail (whether or not it has politics or religion). Strangely, these "train wrecks" are some of the most read and commented-on posts...apparently most doth protest a bit too much when they complain.

Familiarity breeds contempt.
As we get more and more confortable in our PPOT life, we tend to become more HONEST (not everyone tho) and spend less time and effort trying to sugarcoat/PC everything.

Some folks like the PC sugarcoating and pictures of unicorns with rainbows and fairy dust shooting out their butts.
I find the honesty refreshing.

Finny said it best: "OT is the land of soft porn and recipe swaps.."

you all got how many forums to do that crap- you don't like PPOT- stay out, you have plenty of other forums here on Pelican where you can trade internet boobie pics and the best Lemon Meringue pie secrets...

Those who post negatively are those who suffer from self-esteem issues and have to "boost" themselves up by cutting others down.

Maybe next time someone posts something negative we can post a response such as:

Your negative post is indicative of a self-esteem issue. We won't hold it against you. But in the interest of maintaining a positive vibe we ask that you think about getting therapy and/or be a little more confident in yourself so we don't have to read your whining.

Respectfully,
Your friends at PPOT

So what you are saying is:
everyone should lie, pretend, make-believe, and run around like mindless idjuts singing kuymbaya and chanting "everything is great, people are perfect, the world is wonderful".
And if they don't, THEY have issues?

Get a grip, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. SmileWavy :D

PWD got the boot from a couple of other sites, decided to sell his LH and bought a Mustang......then he self destructed over here......end of story.

BTW, I never peed on his lawn.....

Surry in advance, no disrespect meant, hope this doen't O'fend, it's only my opinion and worth less than what you paid for it:

LOL, talk about irony.

I seemed to remember that threads like this pop up every year or two and have since I joined PP forums over a dozen years ago.

So I did a search. PPOT, key words forum and downhill, display as posts.

Geez, if I thought this forum was "pathetic" for 6 years, I'd find something else to do.

I saw several other threads about how this forum went to pot in 2005, and remember the good old days" of 2003.

I really hadn't noticed any negative changes in PPOT lately (excluding PARF).

So I HAVE TO WONDER OUT LOUD:
has this forum really gotten any worse, or do we just have some members who over the years feel they'd like to manipulate the forum to fit the mold they'd prefer so they submit posts to guilt others into being NICER??
