Both of our discussions were between just the two of us. I'm not sure what he shared with his wife, but they are of similar stinginess/thriftiness/tightwadness. The re-neg on his word isn't a shocker, history bares out his love of money and lack of generosity. Mostly it was his reaction to being found to lack integrity and ethics, at pointblank range, that was interesting.

You guys are awesome and even better than Dear Abby. Thanks for taking the time to respond. If any unexpected events occur later in this soap opera, I'll post here again.

PS... the wife and I are good. She pretty much knows what kind of guy he is, but she always puts family harmony #1. Her only gripe is that I never should have brought up the whole thing. Considering the results, she may have a point.

If he was, and then he went and whined to the others, he's even more of an azz.

You did nothing wrong or stupid... and you shouldn't need a signed document on something like this with family. Good grief, this whole thing is clear as day; he should pay you the $1500 and you should accept it.

I have a strong suspicion he did NOT share the agreement (to split profit) with his wife.

You will probably not get your money unless you literally split the family in two. Don't back down, don't forget about it, but move along. You were screwed. I suspect I'm rather childish in these matters, but next time they brag about how much money they got from selling something, tax refund, etc., I would pop up and say GREAT!!! NOW YOU CAN PAY ME THAT $1500!!! I'd get years out of it.

But then again...I'm a jerk. LOL!

She needs to put her family first. I define her family as anybody that lives in your house. Her sister, and everybody else comes a distant second.

You did nothing wrong, so quit second guessing yourself. The problem lies wholly at the feet of the jerk. I'd let him decide if he wants to keep the family peace. If he doesn't pay you, at least he owes you an apology. Personally, I'd have nothing to do with him. I'd damn sure let him stay at a hotel in the future. Your wife may not go along with this but she ought to think about it a little.
